I'm trying their 30-day free trial and I find that their movie library is terrible. Very few recent hits (very few older hits too, actually), lots of Netflix-produced movies and other B-movie trash. I think their main strategy is to get you hooked on one of their many TV series, in which I have no interest. It must cost them less money to produce their own than to purchase the rights to top-grade material such as Downton Abbey or Poldark.
shareI cancelled my 30-day free trial (you still get 30 days) for the same reason. Plus they don't offer newly released movies for rent like Amazon Prime does. (I don't mean newly released in a theater, you know what I mean) Plus Amazon switches up their free moves, it's not static, something like Downton Abbey will occasionally be free.
shareIt can take a lot of searching, but I've found a lot of gems over the years and occasionally they're own content is decent. Right now its actually bundled into my Xfinity package, so I'm getting it for free.

With Netflix, Amazon and a few Firestick options I never lack for something to watch...it gets a bit pricey but if you want non-stop movies and shows streaming it pays off

shareI’m with you, Thai. Zero interest in Stranger. I watched the first ep. That was all I needed. I get Netflix bundled with my Comcast Yes, I Really Am This Stupid package, including WiFi and phone. There are some action and horror gems occasionally, like Polar, Security and The Babysitter. For series, I liked the first season of Hemlock Grove and The Umbrella Academy, and partly enjoyed The Order because it has werewolves and the chick from Ginger Snaps.

shareI guess it all depends upon your personal tastes. I had Netflix for a few months but dropped it for the summer because I spend more time outdoors in the nice weather. I'm waiting for the next season of "The Crown" before I start it up again. I know that show's not to everyone's taste since the pace can be slow at times, but I've enjoyed it. I haven't had cable for ten years now, and where I live now I don't have access to over-the-air TV without spending $$$ to put up a very tall antenna. I've decided it's not worth it because of all the commercials. 😬😨😱 I'll stick to streaming PBS and BritBox.

shareI first became aware of her in Upstairs, Downstairs (the revival). She was great. Then again as Anne Boleyn in Wolf Hall, where I didn't recognize her, sometimes the mark of a great actor! She was a quite worthy Anne Boleyn.
sharei just did a quick check & counted that netflix currently has 13 of my top 40 favourite films of 2018 available to stream. that's not a bad ratio.
i certainly wish it was better. its selection of classic film is pretty feeble, for sure.
and as other streaming services have come online, i certainly don't use it as much as i use to. but i still use it quite a bit. a quick count says that i've watch 66 films on netflix so far this year. if i'm watching 9 or so films per month through that service, i consider that pretty reasonable value for my money.
Well, I don't consider 13 out of 40 a good ratio. I originally wrote this post out of frustration because I had been searching for a movie and not one of the titles I came up with were available (as best I can recall they included The Nice Guys, Withnail and I, Raising Arizona, Nebraska--plus a few others I forget). There does seem to be, however, an unlimited number of crappy B movies. So to me (not interested in series) it is not much different from Redbox, maybe even worse because I think Redbox has more of recent releases, although they too are certainly crammed with lots of crappy low-budget fare.

those are all good to great to me, all interesting & worth watching. i've seen most of them already, but i'd be happy to watch any of them again.
i don't think that's a bad service.
i don't work for netflix. i'm not trying to make anyone else give them money. but i'm very happy to continue to pay them my monthly fee as long as they have a solid selection of pretty good films like those.
My family watches it for all the "Star Trek" series. I also watch some of the documentaries, though they really need to branch out a bit more from the same re-occuring subjects. I did find a few tv series to watch, but it's rare to find anything good.
