Does anyone else find THX's trademark music scary?

The audio company THX Ltd. has a very gripping signature. It doesn't bother me; I find the sound exciting and engrossing. However, because of its intensity, I equate it with horror. Whenever I hear the music, I expect to see something scary.

Close to jaws music yes it’s scary

reply

As a child, yes, but now I just find it intense.

reply

Thank you, Intothenight. You probably understand how the slightest thing can have the greatest effect on the imagination and senses.

reply

Good point as I wasn't a child when I first heard it, I guess I didn't give it much thought other than it was kinda cool.

reply

Nah, it's just... All. Around. Youuu. *shivers*

reply

Thank you for the warning, actionkamen.

reply

I found it loud and annoying, and am glad they quit showing it off before the movies started.

reply

That's understandable, AmeriGirl26. I can see why the sound would be more grating in a theater.

reply

At least on your own tv you can use the remote and turn it down, but in a theater, you're stuck with the volume they give you.

reply

Yes, that issue in general has been a problem for me too.

I imagine you mean this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPY3Y2qhyXk

and not this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAgX4QEV9Ts

It forebodes something...not sure what, though.

reply

Yes, GlenEllyn, I mean the first one, but have never seen the eclipse version until now. The one with the cows is so silly. You hear how the trademark sound sets the stage for something frightening.

reply

Nope.

It’s awesome. Sounds like the scene in 2001 where they find the monolith on the moon.

Entwickler, it is a fantastic sound, but only because it's very brief. Everything is packed in to the music at once, which is why it would become obnoxious and overwhelming if it were to last longer. A part of that clip that you have presented does sound like THX's trademark. The next section, though, has audio that is almost identical to the music in The Shining. Maybe the two movies have the same composers? Thank you for piquing my interest in 2001: A Space Odyssey. I have been meaning to watch it since I am a fan of the work of Stanley Kubrick. It's hard to believe that he has a movie rated G on his record!
