Anyone think guided tours and sight seeing can be boring?
I’m in Europe now and having a hell of a time but the constant walking and listening to someone yap for hours at a time is getting old.

shareI've never been on one but I would probably feel the same way you do
Could you ask the guide where the group will be in a few hours and go do your thing before catching up or is this frowned upon?
They can sometimes be the best way to get around and see places. Maybe you're doing too many tours. Perhaps do one here, one there, and then do some exploring on your own?
shareI would never do a tour with a guide, I like to do my own thing. Where are you at right now?
shareJust left Rome heading to Florence then Venice, Lucerne, London, Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin.
shareis that a prearranged itinerary too? how are you travelling?
Bus and train, and yes it is a prearranged itinerary. However, guided tours within each city are optional I believe.
sharesounds cool, id just figure out what you want to do / see in each place and if that coincides with a guided tour great , if not , meet up later.
Or in fact do half n half:
"Yes , i'll go on the trip to the Coliseum ... gimme a lift there and tell what time the minibus sets off back...."
Sounds cool. I absolutely love Berlin. And I'm from Holland myself, so have fun!
shareDid a cruise the other year and the other half booked a bunch of shore excursions. What a waste of time and money. The crap they show you isn't that interesting either. I prefer to find things myself, stay if I like them, leave if I don't. Having to be stuck on a bus is not fun.
shareI did a self guided tour of Alcatraz which was kind of interesting. You basically get a pair of headphones and you can proceed at your own pace.
shareI've never been on a tour either, but I like GlenEllyn's suggestion of only going on a few, and spending the rest of the time off exploring on your own. Seems like the potential for fun and interesting adventures would be higher that way.
