Songs that make you teary eyed.

Cats In The Cradle - Harry Chapin

It gets me every time, daft bugger that I am.

Song for Vincent (Starry starry Night,) sung by Julio Iglesias. The lyrics are very moving, and the line about Vincent committing suicide is is tragic.

It's a weak and blatant effort of copying another artist's ( Don McClean) big hit and trying to capitalize on it. The gallery of Van Gogh's artwork is all that makes it noticeable.

reply

It's sung in a much more romantic, and heartfelt way. And the intro immediately makes you think of stars. A much better rendition.

reply

No on all counts.

reply

I’m a big fan of the original.

The Cure - Disintegration

The album as a whole has an insanely powerful effect on me.

reply

Great band, got all their albums, never saw them live. I remember hearing Killing An Arab when I was about 11 and that was it.

reply

If you have all their albums in vinyl original pressings then they are worth some money. I’m going to see them in Texas in October. :)

reply

Yes, I’ve got thousands of vinyl albums (mostly originals). Enjoy the show 👍

reply

I do as well and I know your aware of their value then. 👍

40 years of collecting. If it went up in smoke, it wouldn’t matter how much the insurance company paid out, it would be irreplaceable.

reply

Wow that’s a long time. My collection consist mostly of 12” singles so they are not valued so high for the most point.

reply

What are you using for a turntable, Andy? We want to keep your collection perfectly-preserved and delivering a signal to your system that’s commensurate with the quality of your loudspeakers and electronics. In my experience as an audio/video system designer, the source component is the most taken-for-granted component in a system. You deserve to enjoy the full measure of analog performance that’s in your library🎼

Marantz TT-42 Turntable
Marantz K1 Pearl Lite Amplifier
Bowers & Wilkins 702 S2 Speakers
Gold HDMI and gold speaker cables

reply

Is the turntable belt-driven or directly coupled to the motor? The 702s are wonderful speakers with a broad soundstage and excellent imaging. Do you have them them by-wired to your integrated amp? That would improve bass. So would going to an aftermarket power cable, like Siltek or Audioquest, for you amp, believe it or not.

reply

(Delayed response - UK time difference).
It’s belt driven and sound is awesome, all by-wired; I’m going to have to admit not remembering the make of the cables, as I got the rig about 8 years ago, but they’re all gold to improve conductivity. Btw, there’s a Marantz K1 Pearl Lite CD Player in the mix too. I love my music.

reply

Very good, Andy. A belt-drive table introduces much less rumble into the signal path than a direct-drive table. You have a very tasty system that has probably expanded your taste in music. Enjoy, my friend!
