“Let It Be Me” by the Everly Brothers

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lvA-STM7oJk

I was a Junior; he was a Senior in high school. This was our song, but when he graduated he wanted to leave our small town...and he did. He also left me.😭😭😭😭 This was me day after day....just existing. I almost didn’t graduate; I didn’t care. He tore a rift in my heart that never healed. I’ve never let anyone get that close to me again. I relate to the movie “Splendor In The Grass”.

I’ve quoted the following here before, but now with a big sigh and a tear or two....

“For all sad words of tongue and pen, The saddest are these, 'It might have been'.”. 😔
John Greenleaf Whittier

reply

Thanks for sharing such a sad story. It’s brought a new meaning to this song.

reply

Thank you for appreciating my first real grief which has never left me. People who say a high school romance can’t be true love apparently haven’t experienced the deep profound feelings. Sure it’s a young love, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t it wasn’t true. The heart doesn’t know the age.

Back then when we started going together chances are we stayed together in high school. New, wonderful feelings, love from the soul made it true. As Alan Jackson sings in “Remember When”...... “You were the first, so was I” Nowadays they jump from pillar to post. And the dating scene continues like that. I don’t understand all these ex’s people have had. It can’t be love. How can you jump from bed to bed and profess love for the current one?

reply

We've shared Splendor in the Grass before. It's one of my all time favorites. To me, it's no small coincidence that the yacht whereupon she experienced the last hours of her life was named Splendour.

reply

I own the movie and watch it once in awhile. It brings back so many sad memories.😭

reply

I always unconsciously connect it to Miracle on 34th Street. She was a beautiful child and woman and there is so much emotion between those two movies.

reply

The song at the end of "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest."

reply

Unusual

reply

Why is that? It's very emotional.

reply

Unusual, in that it’s not a standard ‘go to’ sad song

reply

Songs that make you teary-eyed? He gets that way. A sad song that makes one cry.

reply

Do you mean the movie score? When Chief throws the fountain through the window? It’s an amazing ending to one of my favorite films!

I love movie scores, and a good one will really help put every bit of emotion you can get into a scene.

reply

Yes that score is very emotional.

All Tomorrow's Parties - The Velvet Underground. The song is just dark.

https://youtu.be/9pMuAgsZ2oo

reply

The Velvet Underground and Nico. Nico did the vocal on this song. it would not have been the same without her.

reply

Yeah. Her vocals are haunting.

reply

Have you heard the version by Japan?

reply

Never heard of Japan. I checked it out on YouTube. It sounds a lot different but pretty cool.

reply

They were big in the UK during the New Romantic period in the early 80s.

reply

I love Japan and that era of music.

reply

It was an exciting time for music.

reply

The New Romantics era at the Rum Runner spawned the likes of Duran Duran, Boy George, Japan, Visage and many of the synth pop bands that were so awesome. Soft Cell is great as well.

Fine Again - Seether

reply

They never had a hit in the UK. Thanks for introducing them to me.

reply

Seether does a great (imo) cover of Careless Whisper.

Broken

reply

'Rise Above This' and 'Pass Slowly' from Seether. Mainly bc of the story behind.
I can't keep my eyes dry when I see Shaun tear up in the music video.

reply

Seether is an awesome underrated band! Great call!

This acoustic version of a tune called “Tied My Hands” is one of my favorites, and makes me think about a lot of things.
