Reality shows

Do you have any reality shows that you like to watch? I'm also curious about why you watch. I don't mean things like "Housewives of wherever."

The type of reality show I like are ones like "Border Security: America's Front Line" or "Border Patrol" from New Zealand. I like learning about the situations that border agents have to deal with. It's also interesting to see the different ways people try to smuggle drugs. Those drug-sniffing dogs are incredible.

"Alaska State Troopers" is another one. Again, seeing what they must deal with on a daily basis, especially situations that are quite different from what most of us experience or even think about; e.g. the large areas they patrol, the distances they must travel, the brutal weather, etc.

I used to watch those police chases video shows.

"Mythbusters," and sometimes "Fabulous Cakes." I like reality shows where you can learn something, and it's fun to watch :).

I like reality shows where you can learn something.

Amen, sister. Amen.

Yay! :D

👍 👍 👍

Informative reality shows are good. Watching people being mean to one another or doing stupid things is a complete waste of time.

I have gotten away from reality TV. I used to watch COPS back in the 1990s.

I really enjoy American Pickers for the beautiful shots of America's backroads and I have a keen interest in antiques...very relaxing after work!

I do think most of it is pretty scripted though

reply

I occasionally watch Pawn Stars and American Picker because I buy and sell unusual items and it's good to know their value. Fun too..
I use to sometimes watch The Animal Planet for obvious reasons (I'm a bunny hugger)

Those Housewives shows or the Kardishion shows..I don't get it on any of those.

One of my friends (who lives in the South), said this of the Kardashians:

"I watched an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians one time and then decided if I wanted to watch spoiled brats run around getting drunk and causing drama I'd go visit my sis in law's family."

reply

That is a great quote😂
Your friend should write for a late night show!

Pawn Stars and American Pickers are great junk-viewing but very scripted

I saw a Confederate States Civil War belt buckle with a bullet implanted in it on both shows...Seemed pretty fishy to me:/
These shows are both pretty much BS but you gotta love the antiques and nostalgia

Do you specialize in an era, decorative items or things of trade value?

The neighborhood kids and dads like my barn very much, it's loaded with antique fishing reels, tools, tin signs, outdoor gear...that's what I like to collect for the most part (I'm also on the lookout for old vinyl records and guns too)
Antique furniture pieces are cool as well but require more of a plan as to where they wind up in the house

I watch Antiques Roadshow occasionally
Finding Your Roots is a great great show.... but yes it gets repetitive
Used to watch Cops a lot
I've seen quite a few episodes of Cheaters, just for shits & giggles

reply

One of the funniest & most humiliating episodes of Cheaters I've seen was the episode where the staunch, church-going, cheating husband was busted in a motel room with the other woman, wearing a diaper and being coddled like a baby. And they didn't even obscure his face and hide his identity like they sometimes do. His wife was so livid and disgusted with that scene, she threw her wedding band into the toilet.

I've always wondered how that guy was able to save face after that.

reply

Sounds like a classic!

The one I remember best is when they stumble upon the cheaters camping, nude, and the host (can't believe I forgot his name... It's so catchy) ends up getting hit with the business end of a torch!

Harrowing!!! lol

reply

And then there's the one where the wife of a successful yuppie dumped him in favor of living in a makeshift shelter and going dumpster diving with a homeless guy.

reply

Humans, lol... such silly beasts!

Oh and as I clicked on the notification link for your reply, I suddenly remembered: Joey Greco!

reply

Yeah, he actually got stabbed in an episode by an outraged cheater they were busting. It was pretty graphic. The show praised him for having gone beyond the call.

reply

If you can find it, I've always enjoyed Bondi Rescue from Australia. I am not sure if it's finished now or not. I think there is one more season coming out this year. Although there are a few highly produced moments, a lot of it is actually real.

I will not endorse any Reality Shows, but there was a time when I was depressed and had nothing to do but watch TV and I watched CBS Survivor. I got a kick out of it. There were some clear bad guys, but I liked the actual game competitions. After a few episodes, I saw the formula and it got old, but it was fun for a little bit.
