Movies that always put a lump in your throat?
Rocky
shareSchindler's List
Million Dollar Baby
I second Schindler's List
The scene with the little girl, in her pretty red coat, being herded to her death...I just hope every bullet our boys put in those Nazi bastards hurt real bad
I was required to read the Shindler book and watch the movie for a class I took years ago...It was a great movie but that little kid in her cute red coat gets me too emotional...it really is a gut-puncher of a movie and I tend to avoid it
A lot of those shot by "your boys" were also just boys, Shogie.
shareDumb post kiddo:(
They were Nazi Boys...and I hope they shit themselves and cried as they expired slowly
The members of the Schutzstaffel (SS) and the Einsatzgruppen knew what they were doing no matter what their age.
shareThey all knew exactly what they were doing and they all got shot to pieces by good men
Our side won, thanks to lots of real heroes
A little naive, of course, to assume that all men on the Allied side were good.
shareIf they were wasting Nazis they were good enough
shareI'm not sure what you mean with "nazis". Stauffenberg was a member of the Nazi Party and he was executed for wanting to kill Hitler. If you mean someone like Amon Göth, then yes, no loss there.
shareIf you dont know what I mean when I say 'Nazis' then I may not be able to help you
I do not care who was a member of what party
If they were wearing grey uniforms during the 40s I hope they caught a bullet or three
I think the problem may be that you don't fully understand who were nazis and who weren't.
The uniforms of the German Wehrmacht were generally green. The SS did have grey uniforms.
So if we're talking about the Einsatzgruppen hownos mentioned, sure, no loss there. But as for normal German soldiers, then just no.
They were the enemy, give them all a name if you wish
Our boys killed and captured the lot is all I know...I was not there and they likely would have murdered me too if I had been
I get your 'nuance' bit but Kill Them All is where I'm at....it was a horror show over there
When two guys face each other with a gun, most of the time the only solution is to kill the other. But to say they deserved it and to hope it was painful... I understand you need to have that state of mind to survive, but it's not reality. Not all those guys were like Amon Göth, who even the Germans realized was insane. That's why they were going to prosecute him and put him in a mental institution.
shareI really like you and enjoy our fun chats...lets just let it go
I feel in love with the world and the cold breeze in my garage today and the thought of fighting with a good friend is not appealing
I respect your opinions...I guess I just have my own
Consider my hatchet buried...hope you still like my company
No, I hate your guts!😡
shareI seem to have this effect on all the pretty gals
shareExcept that most German soldiers who died were not members of those squads. A little nuance here, folks.
shareForget 'nuance'
The Germans and Nazis were slaughtering millions of civilians
They gassed little babies
We need to concern ourselves with 'nuance..?'
Bullshit.
Nazis and their enablers got mowed down like grass
No mercy for those fiends
Yes, we do need nuance. There were definitely nazis who did horrible stuff like that, but most German soldiers did not. They didn't even have the choice whether to join the army or not. You think that before shooting a German soldier "your boys" checked if they had committed a war crime or not?
Honestly, I expected you to have a less black-and-white view of the world.
The Germans made it all very clear, none of this 'black and white' business needed
You became their slave or another corpse on the pile unless you fought them
"You became their slave or another corpse on the pile unless you fought them"
Or unless you fought WITH them in case you were German. That's the nuance there. I'm sure you remember a little conflict called the Vietnam War? Not saying the US did the exact same things there as the nazis, my point is that I'm sure you know people had to fight there against their will?
Vietnam and WWII were completely different wars that were waged for very different reasons
WWII was existential
Vietnam was ideological
Again, we seem
to disagree on your 'nuance' point
When they are pointing guns at my grandpa your super important nuances go out the window
Grandpa and his brother shot those Nazis to pieces and came home
Did they waste a few Non-Nazis in the fight?
Maybe they did, but they were armed fighters and were running and gunning with Nazis so they got what they had coming
Like I said, I'm not talking about the reasons behind the war, but the fact that men were drafted into the war against their will.
Your grandfather was aiming a gun at the German and the German at him. It's either him or the other, that's what combat is about. Where the nuance comes in is whether the German deserves to die a horrible death just because some of his countrymen are fucked up. To say he does, is just complete BS. I'm sure your grandfather killed some non-nazis, which is actually quite sad even if he did it to save his own life.
He made it home, after an ordeal he did not ask for
I suspect that he killed everything in his path...he never talked about it and I certainly did not ask
He hated Germans for the rest of his life
My Mom's uncles fought in the Pacific theater...Afterward, they hated the Japanese so much and were so broken over what they had to do that I cant even own nor drive a Japanese car to this day...and
Japanese cars are great.
But I cannot own one...my family took that war very seriosly
Different for my family. There was an some sort of altercation when some well-off cousins from Germany came to visit in their fancy car not long after the war, but that's it. My grandparents still went on holiday in Germany. I never noticed any hatred, except for the typical rivalry in football.
My father is not a fan of Serbia and likes to see its national football team lose, but for some reason he does like Djokovic!
As for Japan, some of the things they did were horrible, but so were those two atomic bombs. And they completely turned into a productive, pacifist nation. It's rather admirable.
Not a dumb post at all, it's the simple truth. Maybe your post is just confusing and you're referring to specific people. In that case you need to elaborate.
If anything's dumb it's taking pleasure in the death of others.😐
Elaborate?
Ok, Nazis were bad
A bunch of our grandfathers had to gang up on them and wipe their asses out
The Nazis no longer exist...they all ate lead as their last meal
It is a great thing that they were killed off
Again, who are "nazis" according to you? Lots of Germans killed by the Allies were not members of the Nazi Party.
shareI understand your point but it seems to be a bit 'nit-picky'
Was every German a member of the Nazi Party?
Certainly not.
It is even quite likely that lots of decent German boys were drafted into service and would have prefered to stay home on the farm...
That means nothing to me
They were aiming guns at senior members of my own family
They were assisting The Reich
They all had to go
And your family members were most likely aiming guns at them, that's how war works.
Shogun, the Germans destroyed my grandmother's house and killed her family. I'm not being nit-picky, the truth is that lots of German soldiers did not assist The Reich by choice. It was inevitable they had to die to free Europe of the Nazi terror, but that does not mean they deserved horrible deaths.
Im sorry about your Grandmothers home
Stories like this are awful to hear
War is the absence of reason...
My grandfather had to hide from the Germans during the war and actually got help from a German neighbour, while my grandmother's other brother was deported to do forced labor in Germany. I've also lost family members in the Bosnian War, a conflict that goes beyond comprehension even more.
My home town still bears the scars of the war and when I see old photos it pisses me off. But I realize that not everyone who helped destroy it was an evil bastard.
I am truly sorry to hear all of this
You are a wonderful lady and I think of you as a friend...even when we sometimes disagree
Hey, you gave me a deeper appreciation for St Elmo's Fire!
😙
LOL the hate in you is strong. And. Pathetic. PS. I'm no Nazi fan in case you were ready to hurl those insults at me. LOL.
shareI agree with you. Schindler's List always makes me cry. Imitation of Life is also one of the saddest movies I have ever seen.
