Christmas Lights...

Do you like the colored ones or the clear white ones?

I put all of my white lights (strings, reindeer and various figures...) on my front lawn

The colored lights and figures i put out in the backyard
It looks cute but a bit tacky imo
I got a ton of colored lights from a family member who was moving...if its free its for me!

I prefer white lights for the holidays....
What do you all do?

reply

I prefer white lights, but I only put them in my tree. Definitely no decoration on the outside of my house.

reply

Im a 'whitey' too
Nothing outside...i hate to be a pest but why not...the lights in the yard looks so good

reply

That's just too much. Not too many people do that over here. Maybe a string in a tree in the garden. Figures you see even less.

I do put stickers and snow on the windows.

reply

Yeah, i do those 'sticky' rubber decals on the windows too

Maybe we just make a big deal out of everything over here in The States...maybe thats why everyone is always so pissed off at us lol
We dont care:)

Maybe im thinking like a big ugly American but i would buy several dozen strings of bulbs if i were you and really light up those Dutch peeps you live near...they might love you for it or they might hate you...but they wont forget you sweetie
Light up your garden!!

reply

I would hate myself if I did that, Shogie.

reply

I don't put up any decorations, but I prefer the look of the coloured lights.

reply

Hmm...they look nice, cant argue with that
Im hoping for a bunch of replies so i can finally settle this
White vs Colored bulb showdown

I obsess over really stupid things!

reply

I like the white mini LED string lights for some subtle indoor decor. Haven't done outdoor lights in ages.

reply

i like the tiny LED Lights...mine run off of AA and AAA batteries and i tuck them into my houseplants
It is a nice look

reply

And I really love the utility of that metal wire they're on, so much better than a flaccid cord hanging down.

reply

I don't think putting lights outside is worth the effort so I only put'em inside the house and they are the colored ones.

reply

Well it is a big pain in the ass, you aint wrong
But i have been doing outdoor lights for ages and i feel like i owe it to the neighbors...
They go all out too so i must keep up appearances!

reply

Careful, that's exactly how Christmas Decoration Wars get started! I used to live at Ground Zero:

reply

Wow!
Those houses looked great👍
Im afraid i dont do the lights THAT well but you are giving me ideas man

Nice link btw...i used to subscribe to TimeOut, it was a good magazine

reply

Colored lights on the tree. No more outside lights - seems the outside lights thing is a dying tradition. I see less and less house with outside lights every year.

reply

Outdoor lights are a passing thing up there?
Wow...You need to drop 50 bucks on some light strings at Walmart, grab your ladder and put the whole block on notice!

Oddly enough, its like the arms race over here with the lights!
The neighbors (all fine folks) are glaring at me, gathering in small groups and muttering...i think i need more lights out there:/

reply

It is dying out for a number of reasons - the multi-cultural nature of the city is one and the cost of hydro is another.

reply

The tree is in the front window. It looks nice from the outside. Next Saturday we will put it up.

reply

Outside lights are over the top where I live. There are even streets where neighbors coordinate themes and compete for the most lavish decorations. Cars drive thru their neighborhoods every night just to see their houses all lit up. There’s a street with all white lights, one with lots of moving figures and colored lights, another has matching Xmas trees out front of each house, and one street even gives out cookies and has caroler concerts.

reply

Doesn't have to necessarily be white...but definitely one solid color...or a decided pattern...red and green...blue and white etc. None of that hokey multi color nonsense!

reply

copy that

reply

Multi-colored lights is my preference, although some years I've done blue & green together. I've also done all blue when putting up outside lights. To me, it looks "peaceful and serene."

reply

That sounds very sweet and serene...i like that !

reply

A couple of years ago I bought a silver tinsel tree with multi-colored lights. The silver tinsel reflects the lights so well that the tree doesn't need ornaments to look good. I love sitting in a darkened living room with some holiday music playing, just looking at my tree. 🎄 Almost the best part of the Christmas season.

reply

That sounds really nice!

reply

I haven't put up outside lights since I moved here five years ago. I just may do something this year...
