milennials, snowflakes , the PC generation(s)

That title got your blood pressure up didnt it!
Well im here to defend 'em!
I just posted the below on Trading Places board (in reply to "can millenilas handle this film?" , but then it occurred to me no one would ever see it so i'll put it here too:
---------------------------------------------------

at least 50% of what i read on this board is
"i hate this modern pc rubbish"
"why it gone all softly softly"
"millenials are snowflakes , "
"another reboot with women / blacks /midgets in it"
"Leftys!" (i h8 that one)

So it seems the most bitching whining and complaining is done by those that are claiming to be old school / stoic / broad minded / i can take it / Dennis Leary / George Carlin types.

I have yet to see a snowflake complaining there was too much swearing in a film , or not enough diversity.
Am i wrong?

I think alternative media overblows the extent of 'sjws' and such. You'll notice that among all the YouTube channels that cover that variety of news, the same few daily stories are covered by everyone.
Personally, I'm against any kind of censorship, but I also dislike some of the hypocrisy that comes from free speech advocates.

reply

No it doesn't. SJW are the ones running universities and movie studios where trigger warnings are official policy. How can you say it's overblown when they completely control our culture?

The reason you don't see as much SWJ on internet forums compared to the corporate culture is because they can't stand up to scrutiny, which is why they're in favor of censorship. You're on this forum because IMDb shut down after Trump won the election. Stop forgetting that.

reply

so your upset that when you turn your Playstation on it says "Contains flashing images"?

reply

The aluminum foil hat he wears helps😳👍

reply

SJW is the umbrella term for anyone with a rational mind that doesn't support Trump. Thank God they run Universities! 😉

reply

I'm kind of getting that feeling.

reply

"I don't agree with this! It's Leftist, Commie propaganda paid by Soros!"

And:

"This movie has a black character. It's SJW propaganda! Part of an engineered conspiracy!"

reply

This is one fo the reasons I don't discuss film on line that much. No one wants to talk about the story or characters...other than to show hostility towards those who are different from themselves. I seek out fiction to escape the everyday👍

reply

Believe me I understand. There's either a lackluster amount of responses when you want to talk about films or boards infected by idiots and trolls with intolerant axes to grind. It's a real shame. I don't even bother checking out the boards for new films in order to preserve my sanity.

reply

"I don't even bother checking out the boards for new films in order to preserve my sanity."

I've given up on new films , they're all about men with magic powers running around with their underpants on the outside

reply

Well that too but not all. For example I've avoided checking out the Get Out film board.

reply

spot on! me too.

reply

Thanks mark!

Ever since "Snowflake" and "PC gone mad" became trendy, It seems to be the ones who utter those words are the ones who are most offended.
They get extra riled up when something happens in favour of Women/LGBT/POC. They just like to defend their homophobia, sexism, racism, etc. by accusing everyone of being "offended by everything".

reply

You're too far gone to even have a discussion.

reply

Wow, thank you for such great insight into my life.
Considering this wasn't even a response to your post, who says I ever intended on having a discussion with you?

Hope it didn't, you know... offend you or anything.

reply

I've never encountered a soul offended by Trading Places. Are there some who identify themselves on the left side of the spectrum who behave like rigid, reactionary conservatives? Yes sure. Andrea Dworkin, the anti-pornography advocate, was a classic example.

But for the most part those shrieking about "SWJ's" and politcial correctness are the most reactionary and rigid people around. They are the classic angry old conservative men shaking their fist at the clouds, unable to adjust to the progress around them and feeling a loss of privelage and power. They are the Archie Bunkers of the world - screaming about "Millenials" instead of hippies. They epitomize politcial correctness in its true definition: absolute subservience to the status quo and authority.

reply

Wasn't Archie Bunker a low paid working class guy who supported a family? You sure did take his "privlidge" away, congratulations. I'm sure Bill Gates is scared that he's next.

Political correctness means comfortable lies over ugly truths. That's what you don't understand. You're doing the bidding of rich people, helping them shift blame away from their class privlidge and onto our white privilege. You'd be the first to insist we must trust experts.

reply

Sounds like Archie Bunker is the U.S. version of the UK's Alf Garnett.

reply

Til death do us part was the inspiration for the show all in the family. Archie is the lead role. So Archie is the US Alf👍

reply

Archie bunker climbed the ladder at his UNION job fairly quickly...becoming a boss man well before he decided to purchase a small business. The notion that Archie was low paid lives exclusively in your heead👍

reply

Archie Bunker was the atypical "Silent Majority" angry old man bigot upset at the rising Liberalism of the 1960's and early '70's - the Civil Rights Movement, the anti-war movement, hippies, affirmative action, and feminism. He raged aganist a feeling of lost privelage and entitlement. He would be your typical Trump/Republican supporter today.

Um I'm pretty sure it's those on the Left who mostly speak out against class inequality and politcial corruption. Are Trumpsters and their Orange hero with his Goldman Sachs friends and big money Republican backers supposed to be doing that now?.🤣

reply

Just amazing that a man who lived in a tower with a golden toilet isn't considered an elite.

reply

How can you maintain this delusion when the largest corporations in the world, Google Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, etc... all seem to share your political views? It's leftists who defend them and insist the media and academia aren't biased. Leftism is all about centralizing power and having experts plan the economy. Archie Bunker is portrayed as a dumb knuckle dragger for opposing "progress", and decades later leftist grievances have reached levels of absurdity as high as the rate of wealth inequality. Trump was talking about class and you were talking about fat shaming and transgender bathrooms, basically anything to avoid class because you like the way things are going. That's why Trump won, and that's why left is so hard on for politically correct censorship and deplatforming now.

reply

"Hell yeah! Trump and his Goldman Sachs Republican backers really care about you and class inequality! Look at that stock market! Those billionaire tax cuts and bull market shares will trickle down to you guys in no time!
"And absolutely! None of us dirty Leftie Commies give a crap about your health care or your right to not be shot at! All Sanders and Cortez talk about is transgenders using toilets! Fox News and Alex Jones are so cool about those things and never bring them up to the point of obsession! Why can't we take a page from their book and wise up to the dangers of gay frogs!"

reply

You have yet to see a snowflake complain about not enough diversity??? Are you kidding me? You clearly have access to the internet.😐

reply

Are we counting that "not enough blacks in the oscars" thing a couple years ago?
I'm not sure who started that...

reply

Seriously, if you think that's all, you must've been living under a rock. Maybe check out the website of CNN or Yahoo. Recently there were complaints about the Victoria Secret show not having enough diversity.

reply

A lot of them are just trolls, like Thrillhouse aka Trollhouse.

reply

Most of the complaining is when PC SJW heavy handed preachyness is forced into the writing of movies or tv shows or when a popular character is hijacked and altered to cater to an agenda. In all fairness those are reasonable complaints. You could argue that people should be more open minded and accept characters regardless of their ethnicity or gender. But if i tried to make a movie with a white Shaft or a show with a white Cosby family or a male Buffy the very same PC'ers and SJW's who make that arguement would be crawling out of the woodwork to whine and complain.

reply

But if i tried to make a movie with a white Shaft or a show with a white Cosby family or a male Buffy the very same PC'ers and SJW's who make that arguement would be crawling out of the woodwork to whine and complain.

I'm having a hard time seeing that happening.

reply

It couldn't ever happen.PC diversity is 100 percent a one way street. You can take any popular white male character and rebrand him into any color, gender or sexuality you want and you must accept it or your non inclusive and hateful. You try doing the very same thing with any popular black or female character and you'll be labelled a sexist or a racist real fast.

reply

You don't court much controversy by stating the simple reality that the Ghostbusters reboot and Oceans 8 just plain sucked, and were cowardly, risk averse ploys rather than genuine attempts to be bold and diverse.

I do think a Black or female version of James Bond would be cool, but I think it's completely pathetic and lacking in conviction to rely on brand name recognition in calling the character Bond, rather than introducing a new character in the same style. I've made this same argument before in regards to the Buffy reboot.

Anyway though I don't agree with your arguments that relate to such a exaggerated level of "SJW" hysteria. A White Shaft? Shaft was already based off Raymond Chandler detective fiction and White detective Sam Spade. Shaft was given his own unique attributes. A White Cosby? That's just about every sitcom with a White father...

reply

I have a hard time seeing that, but I also have a hard time seeing these people complain about a white Shaft. It does seem like it could be a one way street either way.

reply

Yes, you are wrong.
If you were NOT a millennial, then you'd be educated and wise enough to know why you're wrong. Actually, you're acting like a so-called "snowflake" right now with your outrage over non-millennials

( Being a non-millennial does not necessarily date back to George Carlin. Leary and Carlin are at least a generation apart, so you're also a "Dumbing Down of America poster buy/girl".) And your title didn't make a dent in my blood pressure, which was typically new-age narcissistic of you to hope.

reply

Well i dont think i'm a millennial, at 47 . I'm very well educated but in Engineering rather than psychology , media studies and other navel gazing.

I totally do not understand your next paragraph . I named two pre millenials of a very non-snowflake type character .
and you start talking about dates , and the relative ages of the two .
maybe that makes me a ""Dumbing Down of America poster buy/girl". But not entirely as im not american.
can you explain?

reply

Mark
Then, I misunderstood what you said. You said you're not American, and I don't know if we have a language-conflict, or if was your phasing. Now I understand what you meant by Leary/Carlin, but didn't know why you listed them of all people since they are 20 yrs apart; born in 1937, the other in 1957 (Both are pre-millennials, though Leary may have a different PC-mentality than Carlin, for all we know)
So, educate me: what age-range are millennials, in general? And are "snowflakes" a different age-range or a younger-age within the millennial-range?

reply

it was trying to find a couple of examples of "non pc" types - it wouldnt matter if they were 100 years apart , as long as they wernt millenials.
In fact , it wouldnt matter if they were millenials , my point is the all whining and complaining I hear is from people complaining about "snowflakes complaining" , not the actual snowflakes .

re ages , I heard millenials are people who became adults around 2000ad , so born about 1980 , and the younger ones turn into snowflakes at some point (maybe born 2000? who knows) theres no definitive answer.

reply

Sounds like a whole lotta people turning into snowflakes.
But, yes, the snowflakes /millenials (not all) complain* very much, and why they should be freeze-dried.

*entitlement/ disapproval/ pander to..etc.

reply

If you have correct views, you won't notice the boot on your neck. You have the "liberal privlidge" of feeling like you have the freedom to express yourself when in reality you will be struck down anytime you get uppity. Isn't this the exact thing liberals say about race relations?

reply

"Trendy Justice Warriors"

Political Correctness is the ultimate prejudice.. Rich whites telling society what black people can or cannot handle? (You can insert many other subjects and predicates)

I'm annoyed by both sides... It's Coke vs. Pepsi.. Man vs. Woman.. Black vs. White.. Old vs. Young. Trump vs. Anti-Trump..... while that 1% runs to the bank laughing at the gossip and trivialities. "It's so great to change the world with the tweet" as opposed to going out in the street and getting your hands dirty.

It's all about class. Goddamn you distracted fucks.
