Yep, I agree with that one.

Split is quite good.

It's better than all of those. Still not better than The Six Sense though. However, if you don't like Unbreakble probably you won't like Split because they actually share cinematic universe.

Richard Kelly. Donnie Darko was good but I havent liked anything since, including the Directors Cut of Donnie.

Kimberly Peirce - Boys Don't Cry

James McTeigue - V for Vendetta

Michel Gondry - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Tony Kaye - American History X

Fernando Meirelles & Katia Lund - City of God

The Wachowskis - The Matrix

I just rewatched The Matrix a couple of nights ago. Seen in the light of all of the Wachowski’s subsequent works, it becomes readily apparent that there’s a lot of goofy stuff present even in their “swan song.”

And introducing (or popularising) wire-fu to America.

And bringing back Prince-nez style glasses from 19th century.

And showing real hacking software in a hacking scene (instead of the usual Hollywood ridiculous nonsense chirping and beeping "computer.")

And redefining "superhero landing" poses.

And basically creating the coolest computer screensaver ever.

I'm a big fan of The Matrix. Not their other works though.

Wire-fu is the technique of making people do hyperbolic kungfu moves by the assistance of wires (as also seen in Equilibrium, The One, Crouching Tiger, etc.) It's basically human marionette.

i would include the wachowskis too. but not for the matrix, which i've never liked much.

i think their only great movie is bound.

but i haven't seen quite a few of their films, so i certainly am not the final authority on their output.

Michel Gondry - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Agreed! One of my favorite movies, just LOVE it, but I couldn't get into any of his other movies. I even hated Be Kind Rewind. It's a movie right up my alley, but it was so schmaltzy and dumb.

The writer, Charlie Kaufman, is what made Eternal Sunshine so special. I got to meet him, he's SO short (and I'm only 5'6")

Alfonso Cuarón.

To this day, I think A Little Princess is kind of an underrated masterpiece. But his other films? Meh. Even Children of Men, which I think is a great concept, I don't totally love the execution of it.

Godard's "Les Mepris" (Contempt) is the only 8 I've given him, and have seen almost/about 10.

reply

Sidney Poitier - Stir Crazy (1980) all the rest are shit.

reply

Pretty much all of them. Most directors are only good for one great movie and one pretty good one. The rest is all crap.
