Don't you hate it when someone says: "Whoa, you've never seen that movie?"

No, I've never seen The Fast and the Furious because I like movies that require thinking so don't try to shame me as if I'm missing Citizen Kane. I've seen most of the films that are considered the greatest of all time so I don't need you to tell me that Vin Diesel is Daniel Day-Lewis.

reply

This happens all the time especially if you work with younger people who watch a lot of superhero/comic book movies.

reply

It's true. When I was in high school, people would say it all the time and they would be for movies that were terribly reviewed.

reply

I've seen all Fast & Furious movies. I like cars.

reply

Isn't it nice when they make a movie that matches your personal taste?

Of course I've never seen any of them, I'm no gearhead. I mean, I only know the word "gearhead" because of the Brit "Top Gear", which I watched only because it's funny.

I think my wife hates it, I usually have those convos with her. I recently had this reaction when I told her we received Murder on the Orient Express and it stars Kenneth Branagh and she was like who is that? :/

I had an experience in college where I brought up the movie The Dirty Dozen. My friend said, "I've never heard of it." I said, "oh, Lee Marvin is in it, Ernest Borgnine, John Cassavetes and George Kennedy are in it too." My friend stared at me blankly and said "I don't know who any of those people are." The worst part is that we were in college studying film.

reply

Did he make it through college? I mean..you would think if you study film one might come across those people....

reply

Nope. And he had to keep relying on me for stuff.

I don't work in the film industry, I just studied it in college.

reply

Yes I do. I actually like the Fast and Furiouses for their over the top trashiness, but I do hate when someone says that. It's even worse to ask someone if they've seen something, and they pretend like they have when they obviously haven't, as though no further discussion could be expected, and they think they'll get away with it.

reply

I can't stand it. It's just so arrogant.

reply

It doesn't bother me as a general thing. But if they're a. referring to a movie I have intentionally set out not to see or b. are asking out of clear snobbery; then it irks me. Coz you know you're supposed to love or least have seen, say, The Godfather or Star Wars, or the works of Kubrick or Martin Scorsese. It's like, I actually don't have to love or have seen anyone and anything. So the intention behind said statement is pretty important to me.

I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and guess that your tone would reflect your love of the film, rather than condescension over someone never having seen it because 'what's wrong with them?' Like I said, intention is important. Loving films is why we're all here (or, in some cases, hating films). But thinking less of someone who doesn't share your particular loves is unkind.

I'm talking adults. Children have a different appreciation for movies. I've gotten dirty looks for saying I don't like certain films - and not even films that are generally beloved.

I don’t like it when someone says “whoa” period. It’s a command for horses.

reply

Not even Joey Lawrence on a 'very special episode of Blossom?'

reply

I get that a lot because there are some genres that I have no interest in. Sci-Fi comes to mind. I've never watched any of the Star Wars movies and I'm not interested in them at all. I know they're popular and it's fine if that's your thing. But I have no interest in them. Same thing with horror movies. I just can't watch movies with gore. A lot of people tell me I should see The Shawshank Redemption, but I just can't do it. I'm not sure why, but I can't.

reply

If it's any incentive, I have yet to meet a person who did not like Shawshank Redemption. I'm sure you'd like it, too.

reply

What is it you about The Shawshank Redemption that puts you off? it is not horror or Sci Fi, or is it the Stephen King connection?

reply

Yeah, there are whole genres of movies I won't watch any more, even though I know I'm missing some great art.

Movies about mobsters or career criminals, for a start. I just don't want those people in my life, even on my TV screen.

BITCH.🙄

That's Mr. Bitch to you.
