Which type of employee/co-worker is worse in your opinion?

An employee who doesn't take kindly to mistakes the other employees makes and lashes out their anger at other employees when they accidentally mess up or doesn't do their job correctly and whenever they're pissed off about something they take their anger out on the other employees.

or

An employee who is pretty laid back but shows favoritism towards some of their co-workers and acts snobby and superior to the other co-workers who they don't care much for along with them sucking up to the supervisors/manager

reply

I'll go with angry employee as worse. It brings down the mood in the office overall, and I don't like to feel egg-shells underfoot when I'm at work based on the possibility that person may go off on me.

Tbh, someone showing favoritism toward their friends and superiority over those they aren't friends with is pretty normal in any situation. Sucking up to managers/supervisors is unlikable, but it's also a way to get ahead in life.

Angry employees are bad for morale.

Arse kissers are irritating but are less of a hassle 👍

I would prefer to work with option 1...Angry Guy seems like a guy i could deal with (most of my co-workers are angry maniacs)
Work mistakes piss me off too though and tbh i've made a few over the years
A person should be on high alert at work, no room for screwing about, keep things 'tight and wrapped up' during work hours...I work with several 'angry' types and they rarely gum up the works for the rest of us....
I wont invite them over for dinner as they are usually unpleasant jerks but at the office i find the angry types to be quite useful

I despise favoritism and ass kissing...
A good worker deserves to be evaluated on his or her merits
I have been very fortunate in my career to have been judged on my service and guts...the boot-lickers never seem to last but we all have a fine laugh as they come and go

reply

Oddly the ass kissing employee demanded to have the evenings/weekends off and that resulted in us switching positions and me getting less hours, after awhile I've started putting in half hearted performances in my new position and he was doing as well working in my old position so we ended up getting our old positions back, after awhile he was no longer getting evenings and weekends off which pissed him off, after awhile he was no longer getting any favors from the management to where he started phoning in his work performances, finally one day he called in and tells the manager that he quits and is never coming back to work again.

reply

Ass kissers are usually quitters in my experience...they want an easy go of it but c'mon we all work and earn...you need to stay sharp and ask no favors
Every year we get a new buck or philly that acts real smart, kisses up to the bosses and flames out pretty quickly because nothing is free
Sell your soul to the boss and you will pay heavily (i actually like my boss but i call the Union regularly on her and i DONT get chummy...i toss nonsense at her ass all the time)
Work is toil...but after the misery there is the $$$... They dont seem to be teaching that to these young'uns anymore

^^^^This! I never could tolerate brown nosers. They can cause far more problems and disruptions than the Angry Guy. People seethe at brown nosers underneath their smiles. I’ve seen those sorts get promoted even though they are lackadaisical, while others are carrying the load. I’m a Type A personality and a perfectionist. I was informed by one of my supervisors I was over zealous. My response? “I may be, but you don’t have to do my work over again.”

reply

That was a spot on response

Odd comment for admin to make about an employee!

I’ve seen the newbies come in with that new degree in hand, brown nose the boss, continue to suck up, while the boss makes changes at the behest of the newbie. The boss has swallowed the guff hook, line and sinker. More times than not, the changes are not a good thing. A brown noser can bring down a department or even a company! Give me Angry Man any day!

reply

Yep
Seen quite a few 'bright eyes' come and go...we can usually tell if a person is going to last within a few days at my job

Hey Shoggie,

A follow up to this discussion 5 days later! I just watched an episode on the ID (Investigative Discovery) channel about a newbie being hired. If you’re interested you may be able to catch a repeat or use the ID Go app. This episode was chilling.

The series is “Your Worst Nightmare”. The titled episode is “Twisted Plan”. I immediately thought of our discussion about an Angry Guy or a Brown Noser as a co-worker.

I watch this channel frequently. I remarked to my husband we don’t have to watch the fictionalized scripted programs such as Law and Order, etc. This channel shows it all. A person doesn’t realize how *many* murders are committed until watching these episodes. Horrific crimes being perpetrated on innocent people. Sure, we read a snippet in the paper about a national one or see on the news about local crimes, but then we go about our daily lives. Since viewing these series I take my firearm with me when going to bed.

I like the ID shows
And yep, you never notice how many loons ate out there!
Scary stuff

reply

I like ID as well and watch it quite often.

For me I would rather deal with the employee who shows favoritism & sucks up to the management because at least leave you alone for the most part and won't take their anger out on you (I tend to get overly sensitive over employees lashing out their anger at me).

reply

The employee that talks behind everyone's back but claims to be everyone's friend...

I can tell the type, they will talk to me about a certain one or another one...If they can do this to everybody else, they are doing to me also behind my back.

reply

I know this type and I simply assume that while they are tearing 'Jeanie' from HR to pieces in my ear they will talk smack about me the minute i leave the room

People at work are horrible

Still, many of these idiots can be very useful if used and goaded the right way...work people are easily guided and led down the path you wish
Its always best to be nice, pull strings, act unassuming and leave the feelings on the doormat
Work is money...gotta make that money or you end up living in an alley under a garbage tent (gross)

reply

Anger is a foolish weakness...this weakness can be exploited in the work setting and pretty much anywhere else

My experience with 'angry-types' is that they are usually mission oriented and can be handled with polite and kind suggestions...the grumps are pretty easy to corrall
Angry Worker=Focused Worker imo...

My office is full of angry jackasses...i run circles around them and they love me anyway but i am careful to always be on point...never let down your guard (NO drinking/NO lunch/First in and Last out!)

I will choose a mean angry grump over an ass-kissing backstabber anyday
I understand the 'grouchies' but the boot-lickers utterly disgust me

reply

I just hate the second category. Definitely the kind I would take my anger out on!

reply

There were moments where I've felt like being a jerk towards the employee in the second category myself but never got around to it.

reply

I would rather deal with the angry one over the kiss ass.

reply

The snitch type

reply

The person that supposedly does nothing wrong.. It's someone else's fault.

reply

Looking back I'm realizing that the brown nosing employees are the worst because I sometimes wonder what do people see in these jerks.
