Compulsion (1959) Two wealthy law-school students go on trial for murder in this version of the Leopold-Loeb case.
Cast: Orson Welles (Jonathan Wilk), Diane Varsi (Ruth Evans), Dean Stockwell (Judd Steiner), Bradford Dillman (Arthur A. Straus), E.G. Marshall (District Attorney Harold Horn)
I'd also recommend Alfred Hitchcock's Rope. It is loosely based on the Leopold-Loeb case of the 20s.
I have Rope in a Hitchcock box set and haven't watched it yet. Will give it a go. Thanks

Rope is good! The way in which it was shot was quite the experiment on Hitchcock's part and quite the experience for the actors.
Compulsion is actually very close to the real case. The names were changed. Orson Welles plays the Jonathon Wilk/ Clarence Darrow part. Much of Darrow's actual summation is taken directly from the court transcripts. If you can't find it on Netflix, you will find it on YouTube.
Jaws.
I can't remember the details but there was a program I watched once that was about a killer shark back in the olden days that was the basis for it.

Well, as long as the poster above is talking about Jaws, and some killer shark back in the "olden days", allow me to submit The Exorcist. When the movie came out, it was said that the story/book was loosely based on the real life exorcism of a young boy.....
That was back in the "olden days" too! 😉
