Movie series where the first one was the worst one.

Usually in a series of movies, the sequels tend to get worse compared to the original but there are a few exceptions where I would say that the original is not as good as the sequels.

Three examples off the top of my head are the first Mad Max, the first Evil Dead, and A Fistful of Dollars, not being as good as the the sequels.

Does the first three X-men movies count as a trilogy, and the rest that follow after, are spin offs, since they have different stories? If so, I would say that the first X-men is not as good as the two sequels either, which compliment the first more.

What do you think?

Lethal Weapon

Joking?

It's not bad, I just think the later movies were funnier. It's still a great movie.

reply

Fair enough.

Resident Evil

Is that the one where gypsies are trapped in a cabin, and beset by evil forces released from an ancient book of witchcraft?

Is that an artifact?

Yes of course!

Digressing here, but I love that scene in RE with the laser trap room, where you have to do all kinds of acrobatics to avoid being sliced to pieces. It's such an absurdly convoluted way to try to kill someone.

HollywoodπŸ™„ reminds of resident evil 4 laser scene

Night of the Living Dead, but it's better than any that came after Day of the Dead (1985) from the original trilogy 1968-1985

Amen!

Good example.

Evil Dead. As much as I loved Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 is significantly better and I could make the case that #3 was better than #1

The Thing 1982 is way better than the 1951 version.

reply

You honestly think the 2011 version is better?

reply

the 1951 version was the worse.

Oops. I misread that. That's what I get for switching out my glasses for beer goggles!

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but Captain America: The First Avenger film was terrible. Terrible enough not to warrant watching the others - but I can't imagine that they're as bad as the first. And judging by the ratings of each film on IMDB, I'm gonna go ahead and say that's a fair assessment.

reply

I've heard that same view frequently, so I don't think it's an unpopular opinion at all. I liked the first one but I thought Winter Soldier was better. (Civil War is really an Avengers movie, in all but title.)

The new "Planet of the Apes" series.
