Your favorite 'Return'

Mine are Batman Returns, and the Return of Michael Myers. I don't want to invoke either holy trilogy but they have some damn good returns.

reply

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Pretty much the only one I can think of. Also, I second Batman Returns.

reply

I love Batman Returns so much it hurts. Also I saw ROTK in theaters 4 times. I was 16 when it came out, looooooove it (sing-songy)

reply

I understand this pain too well, friend. It's not a masterpiece by any means, but it is what I call the movie of the villains - Catwoman, Penguin and even Max Shreck have yet to be matched in more current Batman films. And the villains are what make Batman as a story so interesting.

reply

Pfeiffer, Devito, Walken, I'm not sure it's toppable. They're all so dark and sexy and disgusting. My favorite hero, or as you said, villain movie. My 500th post!

reply

Congrats. Dark, sexy, disgusting - yes they are.

reply

LOTR: Return of the King

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi

reply

The holy trilogies, I knew I'd see a lot of these. Love them both beyond words, I even like the Ewoks dammit

reply

[deleted]

I never had a problem with the Ewoks. Even Jar Jar was, at most, a minor annoyance.

reply

Here is where I must disagree. I consider Jar Jar a major annoyance.

The Returned

The French version not the crappy american remake.

reply

Haven't seen it, but this is why I love movie chat. Going on the list.

reply

The one I'm talking about is actually a French series. 2 seasons.
We were kind of looking forward for a third but doesn't look like this will happen.
It was based on a movie Les Revenants.
The movie was ok but the series was spectacular.

reply

I looked it up, don't worry I'll take your advice and watch the French series.

reply

Fantastic,I never wanted it to end.

It often occurs to me how one would react to have a dead relative return several years later.Possibly like Mr.Costa?

I liked season 2,the waiting was almost intolerable by the way.
There were more questions than answers but the ending remained quite satisfying for me.I didn't need another season but I wouldn't have kicked it out of bed either!

I know we've spoken about this before but I didn't realise you'd seen the film too.

Twin Peaks: The Return

reply

I'm going to add "Return of the Mack," song by Mark Morrison.

reply

I was just about to post that one!

It is
(Return of the Mack) come on
(Return of the Mack) oh my God
(You know that I'll be back) here I am
(Return of the Mack) once again
(Return of the Mack) pump up the world
(Return of the Mack) watch my flow
(You know that I'll be back) don't you know

reply

I fell in love with it all over again after it was used in an episode of Master of None.

reply

I've never heard of that show, but the song just pops into my head every few years.

reply

Me and my older sister were really into it when it was new, I was like 8 or 9 when it was all over the radio. I also remember asking my conservative cop father if B.I.G. died of natural causes, and he said yes, too many bullet holes.

reply

Okay, makes sense.

reply

Yeah he's not my favorite conversationalist.

reply

Ha!!!

I too have a conservative (and awesome!) retired cop father...he will go on and on defending Nixon 'til the cows come home...there is no talking to the guy about Nixon lol

reply

Best thing about Nixon was the restoration of tribal rights to the natives, helped lower the voting age, attempted to propose an affordable health care plan, and somehow lowered the U.S. national debt despite escalating and prolonging an end to the Vietnam War. Every thing else about him was shady as all get out.

Return to the Planet of the Apes. The animation may have not aged well but it was one of the smartest 'kid shows' in its day.

reply

I love all the Apes installments but haven't tried this one, gonna have to check it out

reply

I like how the originals focused on racial issues as well as religious/scientific conflicts while the new ones focus on man versus nature. Have only seen 'Rise' out of the new ones. Will see the others.

reply

I liked Rise a lot, and in my opinion they got better and better. The last one "War" kind of blew my mind. There's not an Apes movie I don't like, even "Beneath" and "Battle" which I feel were the weakest.

reply

The essential message in all of the Ape movies, in my opinion, is never discount anything because it is different. Challenge old ideas. It doesn't have to mean tradition is being forsaken when change is in the air. Tradition reminds us who we are. I saw all the classic Ape films late last year and regretted not having seen them earlier. I feel 'Conquest' is the weakest.

reply

You've just got to make sure, with the new ones, that you have proper subtitles because so much of them is in sign language, or be fluent in ASL I guess, which I am not

reply

Thank goodness I'm one of those "weirdos" who like having subtitles then. Everyone has at least one weird thing about them.

reply

I love subtitles, in fact my job is creating telephone captions for the hearing impaired, so I can be critical of crappy captions.

reply

Your certainly have a lot of patience then, learning a lot through other means of communication, not taking for granted meaning through words alone.

reply

It's taught me a lot about communication in general. I think I communicate pretty well and the precise words that I want come to me with ease, but I've also learned how to say nothing if that is what's required.
