Favorite Romantic Movie. What's yours?

There are many types of romantic movies. Some are funny. Some can be sexy.
Some have happy endings and some are bittersweet.
I'd say that my favorite is charming with a bittersweet ending...

Somewhere in Time (1980) (movie): A Chicago playwright uses self-hypnosis to travel back in time and meet the actress whose vintage portrait hangs in a grand hotel.

Cast: Christopher Reeve (Richard Collier), Jane Seymour (Elise McKenna), Christopher Plummer (William Fawcett Robinson), Teresa Wright (Laura Roberts), Bill Erwin (Arthur Biehl)

I have to admit romantic movies are not my favourite genre, not even rom coms, which I will watch sometimes. I think I even prefer old rom coms, like It Happened One Night or The Shop Around the Corner over newer ones. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite movies, I guess that one counts as a romantic movie. The only non-animated romantic movies I own would be the Bollywood musicals Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Om Shanti Om, both of which I love.

But Pride and Prejudice and North & South are my two favourite mini series and they contain a lot of romance!

The Shop Around the Corner is one of my favorites.

It Happened One Night is one of my faves too.
North & South! Now you have done it! I know what I'm going to bring out and watch. Are you talking about the one with Patrick Swayze? I have the set. I liked Numbers 1&2, but #3 was a bust.

reply

Yes, I'm talking about the Swayze one! I love the first series. I'm not as fond of two because of all the cast changes. Three just sucked big time!

I mentioned this movie in a thread Dazed created recently. As far as favorites, The Last of the Mohicans and Ghost.

reply

Mohicans was a fine romance for sure

reply

I've got the soundtrack, one of the best ever, imo.

reply

Agreed
Great music

I'm not a big romance person in general, but that said, I love the movie The Whole Wide World (1996) with Renee Zellweger and Vincent D'Onofrio, about the real-life relationship between writer Robert Howard and school teacher Novalyne Price during the 1930's. It's painful to watch but beautifully filmed and superbly acted, and it contains two of the best cinematic kisses I think I've ever seen.

Conan the Barbarian...
Im sorry for harping on this one, but the romantic elements of the story became supernatural after a certain point

It was very romantic
Valeria was quite
a lady

Waterloo bridge

reply

I had to look that up
Sounds very sad

reply

It's a very tragic story,sad ending.

Random Harvest with Greer Garson and Ronald Coleman.

A truly romantic and beautiful film.
Always touches me what she went through for her man.

reply

I haven't seen that! Now, I must!

This might sound crazy, but mine is 50 First Dates. https://moviechat.org/tt0343660/50-First-Dates

If you take a moment to think about the life that Adam Sandler’s character ends up committing to, underneath all that goofy humor, it’s an amazing story of an unbreakable connection.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945)

Actually I'm not much of a romantic movie fan. However, Forrest Gump did make me cry during the scene where he's talking to his dead wife at her tombstone. That was emotional.
