Movie Challenge Y'all!!!

Think of a movie you love and post some dialogue...

Offer a hint as to the context, the lighting or soundtrack, describe a scene...
Other posters have to figure out the movie
I will start:
A few dudes are going fishing...
'Were going to need a bigger boat'

reply

teacher and Canadian

reply

Continental Divide?

reply

reply

reply

reply

I gots ta know!

reply

Half Nelson with Ryan Gosling

reply

Wow!
I never heard of this one
Gosling is real cool though so ill look out for it

reply

Scene: A crowded NYC deli

Situation: Shes having a lot more fun than Pastrami usually leads too..

Line: 'Ill have what she's having!'

reply

Come on, who doesn't know that one?!

reply

"more fun than Pastrami usually leads too/"

I don't know about that. Have you ever had Katz's pastrami? "Orgasmic" isn't that far-fetched.

reply

I've got another one for you all.....
"Listen. For a dress like that, you've got to start laying plans when you're about 13!"

reply

Oh boy! Here i go guessing again😖

'13 Going on 30'
Starring the magnificent Jennifer Garner???

reply

Sorry. No. This film is a bit older.

reply

A hard one
I will mull it over
Thx Miss...i enjoy these tough ones

reply

The original Parent Trap?

reply

Nope. The movie is older.

reply

Some Like It Hot?

reply

Nope, but you are very hot now!
I'll cool you off with lots of water. (That was a clue)

reply

Ok. Sounds like it has Marilyn Monroe, those seductive sayings.

Niagara maybe?

reply

You've got it! It was actually Jean Peters who had that line though. It was right after her husband suggested that she get a dress like the one Marilyn was wearing.

reply

I knew it, lucky guess! I remember Monroe being a bad girl in the movie, surprised she didn't say that line.

reply

Hey! Marilyn got to wear that red dress! And Jean Peter's character was right when she said, "For a dress like that, you've got to start laying plans when you're 13!"

reply

splendor in the grass

reply

It's cold outside

"Temperature's up all over the camp. Won't last long though."
"Neither will we."
"How will we make it?"
"Maybe we shouldn't."

reply

The Thing ?

reply

HOORAY!!!

reply

Yes, the ending where the remaining two were sipping booze and had pretty much resigned themselves to dying.

reply

A great scene of self sacrifice...not that they had many options

reply

I adore this movie, one of the rare re-makes that are outstanding. The original 1951 movie is my favorite movie of ALL TIME , ANY GENRE!!

reply

[deleted]

One of the greatest remakes ever...we had a thread about this and The Thing came up a lot!

reply

The original is very special. The allowance there for the female to be confident, in control of herself & the men about her (even though her pants zip on the side).

The good natured behavior of the crew is heartening as the movie moves along. Especially the Dewey Martin character.

The "Captain" Kenneth Tobey would be quite the opposite 20+ years on when Buford Pusser tries to shut him down.

Outstanding citation, lennon!

reply

snowpiercer

reply

nice try

reply

A great line from an otherwise mediocre final film of an epic trilogy:

"Just when I thought I was out...they pull me back in!"

reply

The Godfather ?

reply

Yes, it was Pacino's line in Godfather III.

reply

I also seem to remember it being imitated, parodied in something like The Sopranos maybe ?

reply

You remember correctly. Silvio (Steven Van Zandt) did an imitation in one episode.

Someone may have posted this on MC already, but they recently announced a Sopranos prequel film:

reply

Vin Diesel

The Sound of Music

"That's the Peter Panda Dance."

reply

The Pacifier, why do I know this?

reply

Because you're just an average ordinary "Everyday Superhero."

reply

Indie drama

"You know, I almost forgot that my mom told me that. She said, 'His daddy splattered his brains all over the wall.' I thought it was sad at first, but now? I like it."

reply

Was this made in the 2000s?

reply

Yes it was

reply

Did it have anything to do with teenagers?

reply

Everything to do with them

reply

It's coming to me, something about a creek, creek something.

reply

Turn those gears you're onto it

reply

I saw it on TV many years ago. Teens want revenge on a bully but learn more about him. Trouble still happens and the "bully" falls off into the creek and are unable to save him.

Anger Creek
Mean Creek
Rage Creek

One of those?

reply

Mean Creek, it was one of my favorites, as I was 15 when it came out

reply

Yes! Who would have thought an old memory would be dredged up from trivia like this? The fun time they were having made the ending even more tragic. I was a teenager too when I first saw it. Don't remember what year it was though. I can see we both have a lot to resonate with this.

reply

It's so good, great young cast, Rory Culkin, Josh Peck, Scott Mechlowicz, Ryan Kelley, Carly Shroeder, Trevor Morgan. Lots of kids from really teeny boppery shows who took dramatic turns. Except Rory, he's got that baby darkness way back.

reply

It deserves more attention. Time to watch it again, now that I remember its name, in no small part to you. Typecasting is either an actor's dream goal, like Jack Black and comedy, or it's a nightmare, like Christopher Reeve and Superman.

reply

My teen years were Mean Creek and Stand by Me on repeat. I could also reccomend dozens of other angsty teen dramas from the era, I gobbled them up.

reply

With me it was action bonanza, buckle up for cheap thrills and enjoy the ride. Branched out much more as I got older.

reply

I've been doing action a lot more lately, obviously with the devouring of Jean Claude films. I was all about Schwarzenegger back then, Conan the Barbarian till I die, which if you haven't seen, stop what you're doing and watch it now! Sort of actiony but more of a true adventure film. It's my favorite of all time if I had to pick, but I don't so I won't.

reply

I think it was 2004 so I was 15 or 16

reply

I saw it sometime after 2004. That would put me somewhere in my mid-teens.

reply

I keep forgetting you're even more of a youngster than I

reply

I know how you feel. The other day, there was a poster by the name of 'kermitkid' who mentioned he was 20 years old.

reply

In the dark, around a camp fire, 7-10 men, some on horseback, some afoot. The "leader" a middle aged man in disbelieving determination- "All right, now that makes three mistakes we've made. The money, we hung an innocent man, and we didn't finish the job. We can't undo the first two...but we can still finish the job."

reply

Hang Em' High?

reply

Yep, Ed Begley. Great sequence there.

reply

It's pretty memorable, that's for sure.

If someone hasn't already said so, welcome to MovieChat. You'll find this lively place to be full of fun loving people. Well mostly, but nothing a rocked boat can't handle. See you around.

Thank you. I've been lamenting the loss of the IMDB Message Boards and gratefully found this site tonight.
