I'm guessing here, but I imagine that there are certain genres where, if you don't like them, you wouldn't watch. For example, I don't care for dystopian themes so I won't watch Black Mirror. It doesn't matter how many awards it's won, I still won't watch. Or maybe there's an actor you can't stand so you won't watch anything with them in it.
I've never watched:
Saturday Night Live
The Simpsons
Alien franchise
Star Wars franchise
I know there are more but these are the ones that came to me at this moment.
"Game of Thrones
The Sopranos
Friends
anything CSI
Big Bang Theory
Hunger Games
Fast and Furious"
All of these, minus Friends and a few episodes of Big Bang. The latter was kind of funny, but also annoying at the same time.
The Simpsons
Family Man
Going back further in time ...
Married with Children
The X-Files (finally watched some episodes a year or so ago; it was okay, no doubt good for it's time, but not that great)
Bones (likewise)
House
St Elsewhere
Dallas (and all its other clones)
Star Trek (tried it recently; ho hum)
St. Elsewhere is my favorite show of all time.
I feel that I don't even know you anymore. π
To be fair it wasn't a very popular show.
It won many awards but was never popular.
If I'm not mistaken it was cancelled and brought back by a write in campaign.
I never got it. It was brilliant.
I knew a lot of people who watched it and loved it. But I'm not big on medical shows, and at that time I was barely watching any TV anyway. I know quite a few people who also loved Nip Tuck and House, but again, medical shows.
What was it about St Elsewhere that makes it your all-time favourite show? Mine is Mad Men, BTW. It's going to take a lot for any show to topple it off my pedestal.
That's pretty cool that it was brought back due to overwhelming support from its audience! Who'd have thought a network would listen?
The cast was brilliant.
Denzel Washington, David Morse, Howie Mandel, (yes, he actually can act), Norman Lloyd, Ed Flanders,
Mark Harmon, Ronny Cox, etc...
Not to mention the guest stars that were on it.
The writing was some of the best ever.
It's credited with mentioning and tying in almost 300 other shows or movies.
It had an incredibly intelligent sense of humor.
I will say that some of it might be dated as of now. Some of the jokes we're for that time.
Still the stories would make it worthwhile.
It tackled many issues that others were afraid to at that time.
First show to even talk about AIDS. This was in the 80's mind you.
Heartfelt stories with just enough comedy.
Simply brilliant!
Man Men is also brilliant.
I would never say that this is better but it's in the same category.
The only actors I know on that list are Denzel and Mark Harmon. Heard of Howie Mandel (and right, not in a good way), but don't know I've ever seen him.
The writing was equal to Mad Men?? Hm. Dammit, now I feel compelled to give it at least a first episode watch. Too bad it's still a medical show.
If you saw their pictures I'm sure you would recognize more.
Yes, I would put the writing up their with Mad Men.
Not better but possibly more clever.
A lot of the humor is subtle. You would have to know about the history of TV and
movies to appreciate it. I think many people never got how brilliant it was.
The sad thing is only the first season is on DVD.
This is a sample. This episode won an award.
Yes, it's a medical show just deal with it.
I may or may not recognise them, even with illustrations.
Okay, I watched the clip, and this is no doubt going to be the end of a beautiful friendship, but I still don't get it. I thought Mr Nice Eyes did a good job, and James Coco's expression in the last scene was good (wah, so sad!), but I'm just not seeing brilliance and great writing, and certainly nothing up to the quality of Mad Men's.
I know, I know, you hate me now.
I concede it's difficult if not impossible to sum up why a show is so great through one clip. I'd be hard pressed if someone asked me to provide a clip of MM to demonstrate it.
This wasn't a great example of the clever writing.
Bruce Paltrow was a producer of the show.
They would page people over the loudspeaker.
One person they paged was Dr. Gwyneth Paltrow (his young daughter).
They had tie-ins to Cheers, The White Shadow, Newhart , MASH and many others.
Like I said much is dated.
It is hard to sum up a show in one little clip.
For the record Cora lost both her feet in that episode an Arnie was now on his own.
Yes, I cried.
I don't hate you per say but am reevaluating this whole thing. ;p
I still say if you would watch a few real episodes you might like it.
"One person they paged was Dr. Gwyneth Paltrow (his young daughter)."
:D Okay, that's funny.
Whew, I'm relieved you didn't post that as evidence of the clever and brilliant writing. Yes, it really is hard to find a clip that shows how great a show is, so I'm giving you latitude here!
I had the feeling Cora was going to lose her feet. Diabetes. I gave a sad laugh when she asked if he'd picked the flowers for her himself and he said yes, from a graveyard. What do you do with that?
Well sure, you wouldn't be human if you weren't re-evaluating our friendship at this point. Who wouldn't?
William Daniels was in a movie called 1776.
It was a musical from the early 70's.
It's actually a really good movie.
There was an episode where he went to Philadelphia and sang a few
lines from that movie.
If you had never saw that movie you would have missed it.
To me that's clever!
Obscure but clever.
I don't need latitude. It stands on it's own.
It's a hospital show so there are many sad episodes and stories.
It also is the first show to show a bare butt on screen.
So yeah, how can you not love that.
My wheels are always turning.
I'll have to get back to you on this whole friendship thing.
How could it not be? Let me count the ways. 2, 4, 21, 46. Redcoats singing "Cabaret," colonials singing "I've got to be meeee" while doing Rockette high kicks. Need I say more?
I see what you mean. If you're not in on the joke, it falls flat. If you are, it's fun and clever.
Don't you ette or ess me, bub.
Excellent choice. I fell asleep for hours earlier, exhausted. Now I'm going to be up for at least a few more hours. Too bad for me you, and Shog, are calling it a night. Who am I supposed to play with now?

I think I watched a few Moonlighting episodes back in the dark ages. Except for Friends, I haven't watched anything else on your list. Oh, and I did see a few Everybody Loves Raymond when my dad was living with me - he liked it - but that was more than a decade ago. I thought that family was annoying, but that's just me.
It's highly rated, but I'm not sure it had that many viewers. A lot of people complained it was too slow.
I only remember The Sopranos, but I admit I don't pay that much attention to each and every tv show that's out there. What I liked about Boardwalk Empire was the era in which it was set.
I tried watching the first episode of Boardwalk Empire because it sounded great and that it was set in the 20s interested me too. One of my close friends loved it. I couldn't get past the violence.
I've seen Frozen about a dozen times (DVD), but that's because I have a granddaughter who's a fan - she was five the first time she saw it. She's also into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and dragons (How to Train Your Dragon).

Never saw an episode of Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Sons of Anarchy, Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad.
I thought Game of Thrones was a movie! I think I confused it with The Hunger games. Is that a movie?
I never saw any of The Lord of the Rings type movies. I don't even know how many there are. Years ago I had a boyfriend who lent me his Lord of the Rings book. He said it was great. I could barely get through one chapter. Just not my thing!
