L.I.E.
12 and Holding
Mean Creek
Mysterious Skin

All four are angsty teen dramas from 2000s

A Little Princess (1995). This movie is generally well-liked, but it should be a movie people still talk about and that directors and writers should have at least tried to emulate more when it comes to kids' movies. I think it's much better and much more than it seems - it actually reminds me a lot of The Fall (2006).

Logans Run (1976)

Ride with the Devil (1999)

Chilly Scenes of Winter
The Man From Earth
lots of old movies from pre-Code Hollywood.

reply

Oh, you mentioned My Dinner With Andre ... what a great movie ... must have seen that 20 times.

reply

There's a movie "Mindwalk" that's online, which is a lot of conversation, with a couple of good actors, but not nearly as good..

Do you know any other conversation-like films?

reply

I love the movie Mindwalk.
I have been looking for a copy of it forever. The online
uploads are pretty poor quality resolution. The shots of
Mont St. Michel and the French countryside are great.
I didn't mention it earlier because I did not think many
others would like it, but I thought it was fantastic.
I like conversation type movies, and that is one of the
best. One of my other mentions was "The Man From Earth"
which is almost all conversation.
John Heard was in Mindwalk, and also in my earlier mention
of "Chilly Scenes of Winter" which is one of my favorite movies
just because it is so perfectly made and honest. He died last
year after back surgery.

Maybe it is because I'm older however I recall that MDWA did receive some attention beyond critical acclaim. I think I remember a satire of the film on Second City Television. Regardless, you are correct, a sly, amusing musings!!

reply

"MDWA" - is that you doing something with the Mindwalk title? What is that? ;-)

reply

MDWA My Dinner With Andre

reply

Hahaha, OK thanks. My mistake.

Acronyms drive me crazy. I go nuts when someone famous dies and there is RIP-ing all over the Internet. I feel like real regard and respect for someone who has passed away is when someone takes the time to type out Rest In Peace instead of dashing off a RIP.

You are correct ... now that I know you are talking about
My Dinner With Andre ... it got a lot of push from the show
Sneak Previews with Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert in its
first incarnation on PBS. I learned about a lot of offbeat
movies from that show before it changed and got commercial.

Actually, there was a sequel of sorts that came out a few
years back that was about Andre ... and I cannot for the life
of me remember what it was called or exactly when it came
out. I drove a couple hours up to the North SD Bay area
to catch it at the Sonoma Film festival. It was not great, I
think it was about Andre, who he was and what he was about.

Sing Street, my favorite film 2016. Sweet story, talented acting and killer, catchy music!!
