The Fall, 2006.

Probably my favourite film ever. Few people have seen it, for some inexplicable reason.

reply

I just watched this last year.

What a beautiful movie. It was one of our movies we watched with our little movie club.
I never would have watched it on my own.
So glad I did!

reply

I'm glad you saw it. Words fail me to properly describe it, but beautiful is certainly one word I'd use.

reply

It was visually a beautiful and stunning film.
The story and just everything about it.

reply

That's a great movie, but I thought it was pretty highly praised at the time, now Self/Less by Tarsem I just watched and was shocked to see it's popularity is close to nil, I loved it as much as the Fall

reply

I wouldn't know if it were highly praised at the time or no, since I almost never read reviews.

I stumbled across it by accident 5 or so years ago, never heard of it, thought I'd give it a try, and DAYUM! I'm going to have to look up Self/Less and see if I can locate it. If you loved it as much as The Fall, that says a LOT.

reply

It was more from the boards that I was gleaning a negative response, (for Self/Less), personal experience reviews not critical. My impression of the Fall's reception comes from working at blockbuster at the time. I never heard a bad word about it, so it doesn't seem very underrated.

reply

I never heard *any* word about it, from anyone. That's why I was so shocked at how sublime it was, and why I think it's underrated.

Someone on the board on IMDb said the problem was distribution, and lack of ability to market it well. It wasn't a kid's movie, yet co-starred a child. Don't know if that was it or not, although it would make some sense.

reply

Never heard of it. Is it a Disney movie ???

reply

Disney? No 😂

You're hardly alone though. Most people haven't heard of it.

reply

Labyrinth, maybe more recently everyone has come around to it, but when it came out everyone trashed it, it's a classic

Hard to Kill with Steven Segal

reply

Conan the Barbarian is close to my favorite film, and nobody ever mentions that movie for the masterpiece that it is

reply

My favorite movie...it gets NO credit for being the epic adventure, fantasy and romantic masterpiece that it was

One other poster around these parts likes it quite a lot...we seem the only three to even recall it though lol!!

reply

If I could only have one movie on a desert island (and some way to play it) it would be Conan. It is a part of me

The Fall (2006)
Titus (1999)
The Hunted (2003)
Night Moves (2013)
Cube (1997)

reply

Cube. "I ain't dyin in no fuckin rat maze!"

reply

Great line!

reply

I remember being told my a good friend about "Cube" in the late 90s, and just haven't remembered, so thanks for the reminder :)

reply

No problem! You should definitely check it out when you have a chance. :)

reply

I forgot about Cube. It was good.

Gamer (2009) ...

Misunderstood by critics who didn't see the satire and Cassandra-esque warnings and social commentary, whereas it was hated by social media people and gamers because it hit too close to home... Sometimes we don't like what we see in the mirror...

reply

If....1968

reply

That sounds an awful lot like "Taps" (1981)

reply

Not really like Taps at all. Any description you could possibly have read surely would not do it justice, especially if it sounded like Taps

reply

Well, I just saw snippets of Taps when it came out and never like it, or the idea, so "If" is at least not like that then.
