Have your interests changed......

As you got older? For me they have for sure. Here is one example. In the first picture is my dream vacation when I was young. In the second picture is my dream vacation now that I am older.

Got any examples how your interests have changed through the years?

reply

I think almost my interests have changed.
Except for movies.

I used to like to travel now I can't stand it.
I used to like to go to the movies now I don't.
I used to golf, bowl, racquetball etc.... now I don't.
I used to like to go out to bars and such and now would rather just stay home.

reply

I used to love going to sporting events. In 2015 I went to a baseball game and I realized it is much better to watch on TV.

reply

Bluejays?
What was the name of the polka song that they used to sing at Expos games?

That's also true.
I used to have season tickets for a couple teams.
Now the only thing I think about is how long it's going to take me to get out
of the parking lot.

reply

The Jays were hot for a few years.

I think this is Expos polka song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuTbL2FKJxk

reply

I don't think that's it.
The one I'm thinking of the whole crowd would chant through out the game.
More of in the 80's and 90's.
I'll have to try to find it.
I can hear them chanting it.

reply

This is the song they would sing.
I couldn't find a video of them singing it but it's etched in mind forever.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPfGL0tDP30

I used to love the Expos.

reply

The Happy Wanderer reminds me of the Bob Newhart episode where he took a couple of city boys camping, but they ended up camping in a parking ramp or lot, or whatever it was. I remember them lying in their sleeping bags, looking at the sky and singing this. Valdari, valdera, valdara, valdira-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha...

reply

I found it online and just watched.
I didn't remember that episode.

Bob was the only one singing and Howard needed electricity for his popcorn machine.

reply

How do you become an Expos fan ??

You must remember the dreaded Rick Monday home run in 1981.

reply

I'm just a huge baseball fan in general.

My team is the Red Sox and has been my whole life.
The Expos were always my 2nd team.
I have no idea how it happened.

I do remember that. The had tons of heartbreak.
Then they just turned into a farm system for all the other teams.

The talent that went through Montreal both players and management is staggering.
Bartolo Colon is the last Expos player still playing.

reply

They would have won the World Series in 1994 if not for the strike. I am convinced of this.

reply

I do believe you're right.
That was a dagger.

Could you have imagined that "america's pastime" could have been won 3 times in a row
by a Canadian team. People would have gone crazy.

Some of those Expos teams could have won multiple pennants if they could
have kept them together.

reply

There are people in Montreal who subscribe to that theory about MLB not wanting the WS won by another Canadian team.

The Expos did deserve at least one WS - late 70s/early 80s and then early to mid 90s.

reply

I can imagine there are several conspiracy theories out there.

A few years ago didn't they have some sort of exhibition games there or something?
If I remember the place sold out and people went crazy for it.

It would be nice to get another team there but there's not enough talent
in MLB for the teams that are already here.

reply

Watch this.

reply

That's just hot dogging

reply

Yes, but it's more than I could do.

These guys are from Montreal.
They're kind of like the Globetrotters of baseball.

reply

"I used to have season tickets for a couple teams.

😄We use to love going to the stock car races and the baseball games here in town.
Now if we go, which is seldom, I'm always scouting out the restroom locations to be sure we sit nearby!

reply

Yes, looking for the restroom and the quickest route is always on my list too.

reply

I like the idea of travel, but when it comes down to it, I'd rather stay home. I used to bowl - a lot - but haven't since I broke my arm about ten years ago. I've never liked hanging out in bars. Not since I nearly got in a cat fight at one.

reply

I still have my ball and shoes. I used to be in a league 5 times a week.
For whatever reason I just don't do it anymore.

Please do tell.

Were you one of the cats?

reply

My roommate Lori and I were headed to the stock car races at the local dirt track. We had arranged to meet a couple of guys from our bowling team at a bar on the way. The guys got there first. When we arrived they were sitting at the bar with a couple of barflies who were one sheet away from being three sheets to the wind. Our bowling buddies didn't know these chicks, they were just making friendly conversation.

As we approached the bar, the two inebriates started giving us dirty looks: how dare we encroach on their "claim." We didn't notice them at first, but once we did, we started feeling like Laverne and Shirley - remember how they got themselves into trouble without even trying? The two drunks started raising a ruckus and threatening us, they were going to break our faces or something like that. The guys stepped between them and us as the bartender came around the bar. We were in no mood to tangle with these two drunks so we turned around and skedaddled as the bartender held them back. 🤕 Whew.

reply

Look at you !!!
.
I never would have pegged you for a bad girl.
Bar hoppin and startin trouble.
I know you'd have been able to take em.

What would have Laverne said?
"You wanna B52 up your nose, huh?"

reply

As the four of us were walking to the car, Lori actually said we were Laverne and Shirley. Lori=Laverne since she wanted to shove that B52 up their noses, but the guys and I convinced her it was better to get to the races than get tossed from the bar or end up in the pokey. That was the last time we met the guys at that particular bar. It was an Urban Cowboy-type bar, which figures since this was in Arizona.

reply

Laverne sounds like a hoot.
Too bad you didn't get a chance to ride the mechanical bull.

reply

She was. We had a lot of fun together. I'd have bowed out of riding the bull 'cuz I just KNOW one buck and I'd be flying across the barroom. I've been thrown from a horse before and why I didn't break a bone I'll never know.

reply

I bet you two together had a blast.

The bull's not that bad. They can control it to make it easy or more difficult.
The secret is duct tape.
Tape your hand to the handle and you'll be fine.

reply

With my luck, my arm would have stayed with the bull and I'd still be flying across the barroom!

reply

Haha.

You'd still get partial credit for that.
Maybe not first prize but at least third I would think.

reply

Are you Laverne or Shirley ??

reply

Shirley - definitely Shirley.

reply

My goodness, GlenEllyn! I could see us being buddys! Back in the day, I loved bowling, and as I mentioned above, we love the stock car races! There's a track only a 15 minute drive away from us!
I never was involved in a bar scuffle, although my most embarrassing moment could have gotten dicey if my friend at the wedding hadn't come to my rescue and pulled my skirt out of my panty hose!

By the way Shirley..... did you ever Vodey-Oh-Doe?

reply

Thankfully, I've never had a skirt-tucked-in-the-pantyhose moment. At least I don't think I have... 🤔

reply

Oh, you'd remember that!

Not that night anyway.

reply

LOL! That is the exact scene I was thinking of!

reply

I used to like to go out to bars and such and now would rather just stay home.

Same here. I would much rather get some beer and have some pizza and watch a couple good movies at home.

reply

I had a pool table in my basement for years. I lost interest and seldom play anymore

reply

I still have a pool table too.
Mine does get some use but not much.

reply

I lost interest to hang out with other kids
Used to read alot,not anymore
I lost interest to live in a city

reply

I'm not interested in living in the big city, either. Small city, okay. But not a major metropolitan area. Been there, done that.

reply

I read a lot though, even more now that I'm retired.

reply

I also liked to read as a kid. I think high school ruined that for me.

reply

I hated reading in high school. Tell me I HAVE to read it and it takes all the fun out of it. Typical thinking for a youngster, I suppose.

reply

How ? I was a prolific reader in high school and not because it was expected of me . I had a natural passion for it.

reply

Just too much reading about nonsense that didn't interest me. It gave me a headache. It was no fun anymore.

reply

One thing I've noticed, I'm not much of a consumer anymore. There's so much stuff out there that I don't need or don't care about. I'm sure it's the stage of life I'm in, but it does seem weird sometimes.

reply

That's true too.

I used to have to have certain things that were brand name.
Now it's only my toilet paper that I really care about. lol

reply

LOL. Since I'm not buying much, I'm more selective, including TP!

reply

My taste in women has improved. Wiser.

And my taste in women started off pretty darn good with which to begin.

reply

Sandman3- your idea of a "dream vacation" changed like mine did! Actually my idea of a dream environment changed. I went to college in a city and I thought it was SO exciting, worked in cities too. But later on I lived out in the country and I could not stand the thought of city life anymore.

Sure, there's a lot more to do, more stores, plays, movie theaters, etc., but I prefer small town life (boring as it is!)

My taste in food changed also. When I was a kid my mom used to yell at me for picking onions and tomatoes out of my food at the dinner table. Now I cook with tomatoes all the time. I like onions too.

I used to drink coffee by the gallon! But I seem to have lost my taste for it. A friend of mine turned me on to peppermint tea. I never thought I'd be a tea drinker!

Used to love candy and all sorts of sweet stuff. But I seem to have lost my sweet tooth. On Christmas Eve I helped out with the Christmas Eve pageant at church. The pastor, Father Andrew, gave all of us helpers a box of chocolate covered cherries. I still have mine unopened.

reply

pjluprle, sorry to interrupt, but i seem to agree with you in some points.Cofee maybe 2 cups per day,i don't like sweet cookies

reply

chocolate covered cherries are gross

Everyone's interests are bound to change as we get older. We aren't the same people we were when we were toddlers, although at 62, I do love sitting in the dirt in my flower beds and digging. I will also probably graduate from protective pads to out right diapers in the next few years!

As far as interests go, I'm no longer a teenager, so I no longer think like one. I'm no longer in my 20's, so I have sort of lost the wanderlust I had then. I also no longer have the need to get ahead in the workforce. I'm retired now. All of that is behind me.
I'm no longer in my 30's when I was worrying about the mortgage and all of the bills and the expenses of raising a kid.
I no longer even think the way I did in my 40's and 50's.
As we grow older, we are always learning new things as life around us changes. It's no surprise that we change too.

I loved traveling, but the phones have totally killed any chance of cultural exchange, conversation, and people are becoming pretty empty all over the world.
I used to love playing basketball, but now at 35, I've had too many injuries.
I absolutely HATE driving, and though I have a car, I sometimes pay an acquaintance $10 for a quick trip to the grocery, etc.
I used to love going to basketball games, but now I just prefer to watch at home.
