How times have changed

When I was a kid me and my friends would play outside all the time. In the summer it was stuff like hide and seek, tag or going to the river to swim. In the winter it was snowball fights and building snowmen. Now when we go to visit our grand-kids one is playing video games on the big screen TV and the other one is waiting for her turn to play. I am glad I did not have all those video games to play as a kid. I to may have spent all my time inside playing video games instead of outside getting exercise.

Late 70's/early 80's kid here...
I dont disagree Sandman3
I didnt have video games ( i had a bike, a football,a BB gun etc...)
We were outdoors unless we were sleeping or doing chores...school demands and homework for kids has gotten pretty heavy duty 30 years on...
I DO like that modern devices help with homework/research project assignments and corresponding with the teachers though...
Kinda hard to say which is better...good post tho!
Thx

Rain, snow or shine, I was outside only to come home for meals. Otherwise I was doing things like Bike riding, skateboarding, hopscotch, jump rope, Chinese jump rope, hide and seek, frozen tag, statue maker, red light green light, mother may I?, running through the sprinkler, going to the park and doing incredible tricks on the parallel bars, swimming, or if it was raining too hard we'd sit on the front porch and tell ghost stories. If we were inside it was games, drawing, playing house, or barbies, playing school or just playing records for hours on end.

We didn't go on luxurious vacations. We would go to an amusement park, museum, movie theater, the zoo or maybe a restaurant.
This only happened when my dad was on vacation.

We made our own fun and kids were always outside.
Those were the good old days. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

I feel like there was a Chinese army of kids on my old block in the '80's
Nowadays...where did all the kids go!?!
Passing of an era i guess:/

Videos game may be one of the biggest plagues on this earth. It creates obese kids. Not only that it creates a very disrespectful culture. 'Gamers' tend to be very aggressive, sexist, anti-social, violent, etc....

Games can be fun to play, but when it takes you to be so immersed in it, it's a problem.

Yes I was all about going out and having fun, not wasting time on the old idiot box lol.

80s/90s kid. I grew up in the city with not that many kids my age, but I still spent a lot of time outside with my sister, especially in the summer. Otherwise I would stay inside playing with toys. We did watch quite a lot of cartoons and other children's programs, but I didn't get a gameboy until 1994 or something.

Same here - outside as much as possible summer and winter. For several years we lived in a house that had a huge back yard. The far back half was left "natural" so there were a lot of weeds, etc., but there was also a small, sandy drainage area that filled with rainwater and meandered like a small brook across our lot. My four brothers spent hours upon hours out there playing with their Tonka trucks, building roads and dams that would create small ponds for toy boats, or for the occasional frog they caught. They used to collect salamanders and garter snakes, then keep them in our window wells. They hoped to scare my sister and me with them, but it backfired because we weren't afraid of them - half the time we were right there with them catching critters. There was a bit of hubbub once when somebody got mixed up and put a garter snake in the window well with the salamanders instead of the snakes - lost a few salamanders that day.

Yep, I did the same as a kid 50's - 60's. We rode our bikes all day in the summer, and had great times and adventures. Those were definitely the "good old days".
