What did you watch this week? (09/17-09/23)
Hi my movie friends! Hope y'all doin'well.
Here's my week:
Ghost Dog: The way of the samurai (1999 DVD): I can’t put the finger on what exactly made this such a perfect watch but every single scene had something good to offer. The music was adequate, solid acting, cool characters and unique cinematography but its greatness lies in the vibe, it’s hard to describe. The story is traditional yet, peculiar; the hero is torpid yet larger than life. This is ma fav from Jarmush now. When a movie makes you care a lot about something you don’t normally care about at all, it’s a good sign. In this case, it’s pigeons. I did loved them pigeons with a passion. Anyway, this goes right up there with great flicks of the 90’s like Pulp Fiction and Leon The professional. 8.5/10
Pan (2015 Netflix): I wanted to put something on Netflix to watch with my boys and Pan is the first one I noticed. I didn’t know what was awaiting me. Talk about destructing a classic and re-building it up from scratch. If you want to see Blackbeard singing some Kurt Cobain, airplanes shooting their machine guns at a flying pirate ship, Peter Pan befriending Hook and things of the sort, do watch it. To be honest, I found myself enjoying it all, thanks to a good directing, solid special effects and a nice performance by Jackman. I even wish I’d seen it on the big screen. 7/10
Total Recall (1990 Bluray): I hadn’t seen this in over 15 years and, man, I forgot how frickin’ AWESOME it was! I’ve been rewatching a lot of Arnold movies in the past months and this is definitely one of the top 3 for me. I saw a review mentioning that it’s better than Minority Report…. You’re damn right it is. It’s right up there with my all-time fav, Robocop. 9/10
Machine gun Preacher (2011 Bluray): ‘’ Sam Childers is a former drug-dealing biker tough guy who found God and became a crusader for hundreds of Sudanese children who've been forced to become soldiers.’’ This was a nice surprise for me. The true story is powerful, gripping and touching and it was well executed by everyone involved. 8/10
In process: Still watching Season 1 of Daredevil on Netflix. I’ve been a month on it and im at 9th episode. Every time an episode ends I never crave to watch another immediately. I enjoy watching one here and there though. I like it but the fight scenes are annoyingly dark. Like ALL of them.
