Did I hear that correctly?

A fun thread about song lyrics that you may have misheard.

I'll start with a guy I knew a long time ago who used to be in a pool league.
He always wore a "Pool Shark" hat.

Whenever he heard The Police sing Every Breath You Take and heard the lyric
"My poor heart aches" he thought they were saying "I'm a pool hall ace" and would point
to his hat and get a shitty grin on his face. Still cracks me up.

What are you're favorite music lyrics that you've misheard ?

reply

"I can see clearly now, the rain again!"

reply

I always thought it said: "I can see clearly now, Lorraine has gone"

reply

XD

Someone else actually misheard those lyrics, but now I can't help but sing the wrong words every time I hear that song!

reply

This one at least makes some sense.

It was a long time before I realized that there was Band on the Run and not A Man on the Run.

reply

Same here!:)

I thought the point was, though, that you can't see clearly, if it rains? Anyway, my whole family and I can't get the misheard lyrics out of our heads even after all these years!

reply

Years ago K.C. and the Sunshine band had a song "Shake Your Booty". I thought he was singing, "shake your boobies."

"Well those are pretty racy lyrics" I used to think.

reply

Those are the ones that are hard to unlearn. The ones that actually make some sense.

Voices Carry- Til Tuesday

Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
I thought
Hush hush, keep it down town, voices carry
or
Hush hush, keep it down down, voices carry

I missed this one twice and still sing "down down" till this day.
I ended up choosing "down down" because "keep it down town" made no sense.

reply

I don't even know how "down town" makes any sense? Did the thing that has to be hushed, happen down town?

We were actually never the ones who misheard it, some guy on tv was, but we just can't seem to get rid of it. I'm afraid we're stuck with it the rest of our lives!XD

reply

It doesn't make sense. The song is about a man who controls and emotionally abuses the woman.
I think the video showed them living in the city. So to me this made sense.
What if they went uptown ? Then it would make sense.
I guess it's human nature to justify things to fit into our way of thinking.

You're stuck but it could be a much worse lyric.

reply

Your lyrics sound more interesting, though. Makes me wonder what other kind of stuff goes on down town. ;)

Yes, it could be worse, but it's funny how it's pretty much the opposite of the original lyrics. And how the whole family is stuck with it!

reply

Keeping it downtown means keeping it civilized, keeping it quiet.

One of my best friends was married to the guitarist in Till Tuesday, and I slept with his sister.

Speaking of sex, does anyone know the REAL lyrics to Louie, Louie as performed by The Kingsmen? The recording is so mumbled that every high school kid was convinced that it was pure filth, containing lines like "I shot my roll in her hair," but I think that was more hormonal projection than fact. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I am, as in Go forth, and multiply.

reply

Oh, you are good! Someone please help me stop laughing as tears are in the eyes! There are times my husband thinks I've lost my mind (actually he's fairly certain I have). It will be so quiet, he's in his chair, I'm in mine, news is on tv with the audio turned down low....and I burst out with a piss in the pants guffaw!

reply

LOL!!!

reply

Oh, I find it so annoying and frustrating how I can't understand a word of Louie, Louie! According to writer and original singer Richard Berry it's "I smell the rose in her hair". Filthy or not?

reply

That may be the right lyric (and probably is), but that's not what the garage bands sang at dances at my high school😈

reply

I used to think she was singing..."Hush hush. Keep it down now...you're so scary." *facepalm*

reply

Yeah, that's definitely a *facepalm*.
Although based on the songs content it would make sense. A little sense that is. :)

reply

No way! This is mine too!
I always thought she was saying,

Hush, hush, even down south, it's so scary!

It never made sense to me. I didn't find out till years later what the real lyrics were.

reply

LOL.
Seems like their are many versions of this song.
This one might be the best version I've heard yet.

reply

😃

reply

Seriously? I always thought it was "A Man On The Run"! Still do! 😲🙄 Keep going folks as I'm enjoying the heck out of this thread! I have some, but dammit I can't recall them.

Rocket Man by Elton John

actual: burning out his fuse up here alone

misheard: burning all the shoes off everyone

reply

I like those misheard lyrics better!:)

reply

Dance Hall Days- Wang Chung

should be
We were so in phase
In our dance hall days
We were cool on craze

I heard
We were so in phase
In our dance hall days
We were cool on christ

Which makes no sense because most the lyrics in this song rhyme.

reply

At least you had the title right. For years I thought it was "Dance All Days".

reply

Ha!
That still works.

reply

Wow. I always heard . We were Antichrist,

reply

That puts a totally different spin on that song doesn't it.

reply

It sure does.

reply

Remember the ' Paul is dead ' conspiracy theory where backward masking was introduced as the evidence ? The most infamous, oft used example was, " Turn me on , dead man ."

reply

Yet another one that makes sense.
It's like our mind was making the connection.

reply

"I'll never be your pizza burnin'!" (Stones - "I'll never be your beast of burden.")

I saw a comedian mention that in his routine. Pretty funny.

😎

"I Am the FBI."

reply

lol

reply

😎

reply

"I want to live while i'm alive",i missheard..."i want to live as i'm alive"

It's my life - bon jovi

reply

It's close enough and still makes sense in the song.

reply

Indeed,it does...

reply

We Will Rock You by Queen

actual: kicking your can all over the place

misheard: kicking your cat all over the place

reply

Why do you think Freddie Mercury hated cats so much ?

reply

LOL, godewey!

"The police didn't love Laura, nobody loved Laura but us."

reply

lol

reply

PETA and the ASPCA should have been all over that!

Geddy Lee strikes again!

From Working Man

Lag it up, sever yea /like Year, but without the R/
And I go to work at night.

Real lyric:
I get up at 7, yeah
And I go to work at 9

The man is just a fountain of misheard lyrics for moi.

reply

Ha !
"Lag it up, sever yea"
What did you think this could possibly mean ?

reply

That typo made it so much better. I did hear the "seven" as seven. But I had no idea what he meant with that as well.

reply

I may have found my Geddy Lee song. So have fun.
I think I got about 80% wrong.

A-ha - Take on Me

Actual-
We're talking away/I don't know what---------------------talking away/i don't know what I had to say
I'm to say I'll say it anyway--------------------------------i'll say it anyway
Today's another day to find you----------------------------today isn't my day to find you
Shying away/ I'll be coming for your love, okay?---------shyin away/i'll be coming for my lovin key
Take on me/ Take me on-----------------------------------Take on me/ Take me on
I'll be gone/In a day or two--------------------------------i'll be gone/and i am free
So needless to say/I'm odds and ends--------------------so needless to say/i wanna sit in
I'll be stumbling away--------------------------------------for my bees
Slowly learning that life is OK------------------------------the fight was ok
Say after me/ It's no better to be safe than sorry--------say after me/life's better to be safe than sorry

reply

Ha! The guy from A-ha has the excuse of not being a native speaker though. The same can't be said about my buddy, Geddy.

reply

That's funny.
I was talking to Geddy the other day about this and he said the same thing about you.
"When that Mina gets going I don't know what she's saying."

reply

I did go to listen to the song. At least you hear Shying away. I hear Shining Away; I'm odds and ends - I'm odds and ears.

I did have fun!

reply

Did you understand any of the words?

I heard this song yesterday. It was the first time I ever looked up the words.
I couldn't believe how not close I was.
Did you do any better ?

reply

Nope, I didn't. A good chunk is unintelligible to my odds and ears. He just blends the words into each other that I can't make them out clearly.

reply

This makes me feel a little better.
The only reason it's a little better is because it's you saying this.
