Renee Zelwegger I just hate her squinched up face like she ate 100 lemons

reply

[deleted]

I think it was her old self that had the lemonface. Her new face is weird too but I think if she didn't spend years of squinching her face up into those stupid expressions, she would not have needed a face lift. All those 'comic' faces she used to make must create more wrinkles.
You know how your mom used to say your face will freeze like that.
Now she looks like a poor man's Robin Wright.

reply

Indeed... another one

Jennifer Lawrence😉

Stephen Seagal

reply

Yes,the man who doesn't get beaten...ever,i second that.

reply

Not a fan of Richard Dreyfus either.
Comes across as condescending to me.

reply

[deleted]

Ahhh no,

I know what he was in.
He's not in the same category has my other ones.

Don't think there is any confusion. Although she might have a face like a frying pan it's not her.

I remember interviews with him years ago. Seemed real pompous. I remember he had trouble on sets with actors.
Even Bill Murray. How could anybody fight with Bill Murray?

"A bit like someone who is not a million miles away..."

????
Mina ?
I can see that.

reply

I'm with you on Dreyfus, dewey. After Jaws and Close Encounters, I began to dislike him, beginning with The Competition, where, to me, he came across as pretentious. And then there's the Stakeout movies where he's just not convincing as the macho, romantic lead. The same in another movie, the title of which I can't remember, where he's supposedly a legendary fire fighting hero.

reply

Glad I'm not the only one.
It seems he's had a few popular movies and has continued to cash in on them.
I don't think I've seen him in anything in 20 years.

reply

A million years ago, I interviewed Dreyfuss when he was promoting Whose Life Is It Anyway. Interview lasted over an hour and he couldn't have come across as any more genuine and warm. Different strokes, I guess

reply

Yeah but couldn't that be seen as putting on his best face for the public compared to what he's actually like behind the scenes to work with ?

reply

Possibly, sure. I'm only relating what I experienced.

reply

I can only go by my perception and what I have seen.
I do know that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
This at least would explain why he had problems with other actors in his movies.

reply

That actually gives me a renewed sense of respect for the guy, that he was able to achieve the measure of success he did with that affliction. I once had a neighbor who was bi-polar. Constant drama, sudden upheaval. I never knew if I should call the cops because she had just murdered her boyfriend or committed suicide.

reply

It must have been fairly recently he was diagnosed. I was watching some program not to long
ago that announced he would be on the following night discussing this.
Yes I'm sure it was difficult going through your life wondering why you acted the way you do.
I have people in my family with this.

Having said all this I hope he can find peace but I'm still not a fan.

reply

Are you kidding? Richard Dreyfus makes his living playing smug characters. It is is schtick that he does so well. Lol

reply

Playing characters and real life are different. Stallone played tough guy characters most of his career.
Doesn't mean in real life he beats people up.
Dreyfus also hasn't done anything meaningful in his career in quite a while
Obviously he's not at the top of anybody's list anymore.

reply

Good grief. And Richard Dreyfus is an ACTOR. Possibly a far better actor than Stallone. I have seen Dreyfus in interviews. The man is the opposite of conceit. Trust me or go watch a few of his interviews. Career or otherwise he is still an actor. Lots of younger actors have copied Richard.

reply

I can't argue Stallone. It's just the first name that popped into my head. I have no idea why.
The interviews I saw he did come across as pretentious.

" Lots of younger actors have copied Richard."
If this is true it would certainly explain the state of movies today.

reply

Lol

<< Not a fan of Richard Dreyfus either.

This is SO TRUE!!
.

reply

Thanks Cookie. It's always nice to not be alone.

reply

Yes, on Growe and Paltrow. Especially Paltrow. And Crowe... lol

Will Ferrell
George Clooney
Recent Bruce Willis

Lots of others probably...

reply

I couldn't go as far as to say I have an irrational dislike for Clooney, but I've never understood the big fuss about him. He's okay. Meh.

reply

I just can't take that smirk he always has on his face anymore. And I've never understood his appeal either.

reply

[deleted]

EXACTLY
hatred for Paltrow is extremely rational and correct. She is just loathesome.
irrational hate is when the person didn't really do anything wrong but you can't stand their face.

reply

[deleted]

it is kind of equine
She's an okay actress but I never understood how she always made the 'most beautiful women in the world' lists. Must be a good publicist.
I see more beautiful women than her at the grocery store. She's not even in the top ten at my local mall, much less top ten in the world.

<< hatred for Paltrow is extremely rational and correct. She is just loathesome. >>

I think she's usually a very good actress, tho. EMMA, HARD 8, THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE etc.

In real life it looks like she's shriekingly pretentious, unfortunately. But she's a Beverly Hills brat, so it's no surprise...
.

reply

I'm definitely on the same page with you on Will Ferrel. I can't stand him, have never seen any of his movies.

reply

[deleted]

Exactly, a real turn-off! That's why I decided to not waste my time with his movies.

reply

Noone has ever recommended Elf to me, thank God! I just don't understand what is so funny about Ferrell...

I agree, it's not irrational. I don't like Paltrow as an actress, and as I pusher of ridiculously expensive literal crap. I'm shocked she and Chris Coldplay consciously uncoupled, with their level of blandness they're made for eachother.

reply

I'm blushing now. I did like Elf. It was funny. It wasn't just Ferrell though. Bob Newhart was great in it and I've had a thing for James Caan ever since the Godfather.
It's actually one of the many Christmas movies we watch around the Holiday season.

reply

[deleted]

He really is. He's always such a pleasant surprise in everything he does. I loved him in Elf!

reply

[deleted]

I haven't seen The Rescuers, but now I plan on it.
I got a kick out of him in the 1971 movie, Cold Turkey. It's where a whole town is offered a boatload of money from a tobacco company to stop smoking for a month.
Bob Newhart played such a weasel in it, but he was very funny as always.

I also enjoyed his appearances on The Big Bang Theory. Very adorable!

reply

[deleted]

Gwyneth Paltrow I hate too but it's not irrational. My hate for her is based on her obnoxious entitled GOOP blog. I liked her as an actress before she became the poster child of privileged cluelessness.

reply

A few more:

God yes, Will Ferrell
Melissa McCarthy
David Spade
Tracy Morgan
Sara Jessica Parker
Kirsten Dunst
Adam Sandler
James Spader
Tom Green
Jennifer Anniston
Seth Rogen

reply

Ben stiller

reply

Yeah, I really dislike SJ Parker. I also dislike J Love Hewitt. Bugged me when her show replaced Joan Of Arcadia's time slot, so I've disliked her ever since.

"Getting her t and p out to sell records yuk."

Don't a lot of female singers today do the same thing and worse? Carey, beyawnce, Rhianna, Cyrus, etc, etc

reply

Being an attractive woman has always helped getting work as a singer. Julie London was a gorgeous chanteuse, as were so many of her peers. Ella Fitzgerald is one of the only female singers who while having to rely on others for material and instrumentation, really wasn't particularly striking. But she was a genius at her craft.
I once met a woman who sang in front of a jazz group. She was pretty, but after talking with her I didn't get the impression she knew very much about music, haha.

reply

Ella, Sarah, Edith Piaf, Etta James, Aretha, Nina, Billie, Janis etc... None were particularly striking, but were/are all great singers.

reply

I think we are on the same page, and I do agree that Aretha and Janis were women who were impossible to dismiss because of their talent. I do think the other women were somewhat attractive. Etta James I don't have a firm mental picture of, but Vaughn, Piaf, Holiday, maybe Simone -- they weren't exactly Unattractive women.
I suspect we are getting into personal preferences here, and the semantics of "striking." And I'm trying to be respectful.

reply

Nah, we're good. I was interpreting "striking" as Julie London-esque, ie, not just very attractive, but using her sexuality to a degree to help sell her LPs...check out the covers of some earlier ones. I wouldn't call any of those other singers unattractive by any means; they simply weren't raving beauties, like most of the population. But what came out of their mouths was beyond beautiful

reply

Joplin at the Monterey Pop Festival doing Ball and Chain is a knock-your socks-off performance. You can see Mama Cass in the YouTube video, absolutely captivated.

reply

Most filmed performances by Janis were knock-your-socks-off. I don't think I've ever seen a singer who put -- excuse the cliche -- every single fibre of her being into her singing to the level Janis did. There are some performances where she's actually almost vibrating from being so into the song...and it has nothing to do with drugs.

Yes, it's very unfortunate we live in confusing times where we are supposed to honor and respect everyone's individuality, but at the same time we are barraged with sexuality. I really don't like it, I don't think it's healthy for society but it's so much a part of our landscape, I'm not sure what to think anymore. People want to have it both ways, freedom of expression versus healthy role models.
Personally, I won't blame Miley's behavior on Madonna. I'm not a fan of either, but Cyrus should have her head on straight and her eyes wide open, and if she chooses to market herself this way, that's her own choice. I sometimes cringe when I see her, like who has any thoughtful fondness for this creature? But I'm not the best barometer of good taste and popularity.

Why Abby?

reply

Yes, I think the character of Abby Sciutto (sp?) is really fun. I've read some people who think she should "grow-up," mostly because she's actually older than her character (it would seem).
Abby's fun, she's a good person. There's no reason to hate on her.
