Another of the great ones leaves us. Condolences to his family, fans, and friends, particularly his best friend, Bob Newhart.

Grew up with him. Very funny man. RIP 😔

Ironically and maybe even strangely, I happened to see him, on a whim, in an old episode of The Andy Griffith Show just the day before reports of his death began to appear online. Prior to that, I hadn't seen or heard anything about him in quite awhile.

There wasn't a hint of his trademark abrasive, comedic style. Just a simple, effective somewhat sympathetic portrayal of a loser who couldn't seem to do anything right.
