Is modern Russian mainstream TV of the last 10 years until even now REALLY as bad as some SAY it is?
Granted, I, even as a Russian, albeit one who for over 30 years of his 38 years of life have lived in UK, am generally NO huge fan of it, albeit, I am nowhere near its greatest expert EITHER (oh, don't we ALL wish we were EXPERTS at something at least) and I dare say generally I was somewhat indifferent to it overall.
But are several sources and people, both inside and outside of Russia, who are critical of it, including mainstream channels like ORT or others like RTR or even more RESPECTABLE ones like "NTV" but OK, here and there, absolutely correct? Or not? And regardless of who has a right to what opinion, what is the real TRUTH there, and is it really MORE propagandistic and thus "awful" compared to mainstream general TV of OTHER countries?
Also, and this is personal... Yes of course of course of course, other people are 'entitled to their opinions'. But folks, even for us ordinary ones of the modern day internet generation, is it REALLY too much to ask to remain MATURE and at least slightly BALANCED in it all, AND, BREAKING NEWS (pun fully intended) - if you are entirely OUTSIDE OF RUSSIA, and have arguably NEVER subjected yourself to a SINGLE piece of any one of its programmes, is it really too much to ask of you to not one-sidedly indulge in immaturity laden SMEAR CAMPAIGN and talk openly like that "Oh, look at how "shitty" it all is" and not offer too much or even any constructive criticism? Maybe its not that huge a deal when you think about it, and aren't even of respectable European and Scandinavian countries certain if not most of TV somewhat "biased", "propagandistic" and "respectable of its leader, i.e. President or Prime minister" - no matter how generally "bad" they MAY be if its all that SIMPLE anyways?
I may also not have explicitly stated this at the time, but people I know and family members generally aren't that problematic at least about it and even if they aren't huge fans always, they don't see it all in such a toxic light. And if looked closely, even modern Russian TV has some non-mainstream channels that are outside of or even critical of politics i.e. "Rain" or "Culture" plus...
Maybe quality of it even HAS deteriorated. BUT... In times of the Soviet Union, it was often equally if not more propagandistic. And I didn't hear general public or modern day various focus groups get so opposed to it like they are today. But that could be symptomatic of times and cultural changes. Heck, we also had wars back then and politicians who 'started' conflicts that took innocent lives. And even as sad as it is perhaps strongly unpopular opinions existed even in those pre-internet times. But atmosphere around it seemed more tolerant even if some people didn't like Soviet TV much at the time either.
So with all of that in mind, REALLY as bad as some folks say or... Thanks. :)
P.S. On a related but different note, I wanted to ask about "terrorists" but also if "heads of state" the modern ones ARE as no as WORSE than them but if also that mitigates those "individuals" in any way but even SO... Shall we have a more mature and balanced approach to the subject but ALSO ask, well... Is it all that simple anyway? And OK it may have still been bad to start military ops or wars rather in such areas as well but... Another choice BESIDES ignoring them and leaving them as be, and even so, that just makes them as BIGGER MONSTERS LIKE THAT? OR...? Even IF I disagree with wars and most people I knew weren't say appreciators of even the first war in Chechnya that was started in late 1994 under Boris Yeltsin.
