In 2000 FOXNews called Florida for Bush at like 1:00am Wednesday morning West Coast.
(some other network had called Florida for Gore around 5:00pm West Coast, and then retracted it.) A big issue was that Floridians in the western panhandle (where polls were still open) could have been dissuaded from voting based on that.
The immediate recount as required by Florida law (based on margin of victory) showed Bush with like 300 more votes than Gore.
Didn't we know who won in 2020 that night. The networks called it that night and ended up being right. I thought we'd be waiting a week. Maybe something similar will happen tonight?

Are you familiar with the red mirage / blue shift? Rural votes (which trend Republican) get counted & submitted first so exhibit the appearance of being ahead. Then bigger city counts come in later and shift the count blue bc there are a lot more ppl & votes in higher populated urban & suburban areas.
