From the office of Boston Mayor: No Whites Christmas!

Apology given but i can't figure out what the apology. Sorry for having planned a racially segregated Christmas event that excludes white people or sorry if white people got offended by finding out there was a racially segregated Christmas event that excluded them. It's ok though because there will be a Christmas event later that isn't racially segregated so it's all good.

An official within the Boston mayor’s office has apologized for sending an invite for an “Electeds of Color Holiday Party” to all city councillors.

Mayor Michelle Wu’s director of City Council relations Denise DosSantos sent an email Tuesday for a party the following day meant for six minority councillors, but instead invited all 13 members of council.

Minutes later, DosSantos – a Black woman from Cape Verde – apologized for the confusion in a follow-up email.

“I wanted to apologize for my previous email regarding a Holiday Party for tomorrow,” DosSantos wrote, according to the Boston Herald . “I did send that to everyone by accident, and I apologize if my email may have offended or came across as so. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.”

Ricardo Patron, a Wu spokesperson, said the mayor – an Asian-American woman – was asked to host the party, one of many this month.

Isn't Boston a really high majority white city? They must really hate themselves if they voted for this lady.

reply

It's the most racist city in America that tries everything to shed that moniker, and always end up making it worse.

reply

Wu is actually married to a white guy so her own husband couldn't go.

reply

Could you imagine the outrage if a white person had sent a similar email? Cancel Nation would be engaged.

reply

All they have to do in the announcement is write "Elected Officials of Color Party" but "Everyone is invited/welcome".

They have similar parties and associations where I am like Hispanic Heritage Party or Asian & Pacific Islander Dance, but the invite always announces "all is welcome".

reply

If it's for everyone why call it "Elected Officials of Color Holiday Party"? If it's for everyone then why have another holiday party in a week that is for everyone.

1.
You didn't read my comment.

2.
"Councilors who are members of the Electeds of Color group say the organization has been around for years and has hosted several parties for its members.

“It’s not at all divisive,” said Councilor At Large Ruthzee Louijeune. “It’s creating spaces for people in communities and identities with shared experiences to come together.”

It sounds like much ado about nothing. The whites are not members of the Elected Officials of Color organization which is the real reason they weren't invited. The party is for organization members.

There are many women only professional organizations, groups, clubs, gyms, etc.. I knew someone who belonged to many different ethnic and religious group professional organizations to network. White elected officials should just join the organization if they want to attend the party.

reply

1 I did and as usual you're ignoring what I said.

2 A long winded way of saying racially segregated events are fine as long as those excluded are white. Segregation due to race used to be something that was fought against.

reply

1. There are Italian, Irish, Jewish, Hispanic and women professional groups. They are white.

2. No group segregates more than white, Christian males.

reply

All of those groups are not white groups. If an Italian group had a dinner, would it be ok to say that everyone is welcome except for black Italians?

reply

They're mainly white.

Historically, whites have belonged to groups like the NAACP. White men can join the political POC group. Just pay membership dues.

Let me complete the sentence. No group segregates more than white Christian males which is the reason there are POC groups attempting to fight back against racism like the NAACP.

The black Italians must be Italian group members and have paid membership fees before going to a members' only event.

Do you think that Trump will allow me to hangout at Mar-a-Lago without paying the initial $200,000 membership fee and then $20,000 annual dues?

reply

They're mainly white? So, they don't discriminate based on skin color like the Boston holiday party did? It is a party for elected officials that uninvited white elected officials when they were accidentally invited. The reason they were uninvited is because they were white. At no point did I hear anyone say they can go to the racially segregated party if they join a group that is for elected officials of color.

reply

I actually agree with you. The problem is that that the apology made it clear that is was sent out by accident, and everyone wasn’t invited. It honestly sounds like they weren’t even supposed to know about it.

If they had just not addressed it, and said it’s a party celebrating the council members of color, but whoever wants to go, can. It wouldn’t be an issue.

reply

Just have a party that has nothing to do with skin color and everyone can go. Why celebrate people who aren't white. Being non-white doesn't make anyone special and worthy of celebration.

reply

It’s a bit weird to do as a Christmas party, but we celebrate diversity all the time. Almost every group has their own day, or month. I don’t think it’s bad to recognize differences, or acknowledge progress as long as it’s not done in a way that excludes people. Which is what we have here.

reply

Again, there are groups who have their own thing. However, would it be ok to have an LGBTQ event and say everyone is welcome except black LGBTQ people?

reply

We are agreeing on that point, I said it in both of my posts.

reply

Must have misread. People seem to be having a hard time denouncing a racially segregated party. I thought you were saying the no whites allowed party was a celebration of diversity and a bit weird as in not racist.

reply

The article is poorly written.

The party is for members of a specific organized group. If you join the group and pay your membership fees, then you can get an invite to the party, also.

reply

The party is for members of a specific organized group.

A specific organized racist group...don't sugar coat it.

reply

Nonsense! Stop race-baiting!!

reply

That works both ways.

reply

You're the one who is bring up race when it had to do only with group membership.

reply

But if there are no whites who will they rob?

reply

Who will pay for the party!?

reply

Everyone is a racist...some just hide way better than others.

The End.

reply

Some don't have to hide it but get to wear it as a badge of honor. Wu went ahead with her segregated holiday party where everyone no matter your faith, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, race etc can attend just not white people. They showed up proudly in front of the media like it was a red-carpet event. Guaranteed at some point she and the other attendees will be painted as the victims of a right wing/white supremacist mob if any criticism continues.

reply

Yeah, I'll buy that.. Sure.. Absolutely

reply

It's only a matter of degrees and discipline.

reply

It's not a "racially segregated Xmas event." It is a holiday party thrown by the group "Electeds of Color," which has been around for years in Boston.

reply

It's a holiday party that everyone is invited to regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, faith etc except white people. Just because they hosted a racially segregated event that excludes white people for years doesn't make it ok or shouldn't. Why not just have everyone go? Why are white people the only ones excluded?

reply

You can't read.

The party is for an organized professional group with membership fees. You have to join, pay fees and then you'll be invited to the group's party.

If white politicians want an invite, then join the group and pay fees like everyone else.

reply

Hey hypocrite, what happened to DEI?

reply

Nothing stopping the white politicians from joining the DEI group and paying membership fees like everyone else.

reply

Racism against whites stopped them from joining.

reply

That's dumb. Anyone can join professional organizations. I know a man who joined various ethnic and women professional organizations to network.

It would be appreciated if white people joined because it would mean the white members support diversity and want more of it.

reply

If it is a group for everyone and whites are ok to be involved, then why is it described as "for people of color"? Why invite whites then uninvite them?

reply

Because the group addresses problems that politicians of color face. Whites can join. Just pay membership fees.

reply

Problems like facing segregation and discrimination based on skin color? As we see with this racially segregated party white people face those problems also. If their group is for everyone, why is it described as "for people of color"?

reply

Because the group addresses problems that politicians of color face. Whites can join. Just pay membership fees.

You're repeating yourself.
rif.org
You're welcome!

reply

You give a reason for the segregation and then say it is not a segregated group. Which is it?

reply

lol, what happened to DEI?!

reply

And Boston was the hotbed of the Revolution... amazing how far Massachusetts has fallen since..

reply

One of many reasons I'm so glad not to live in Massa-two-shits.
