Apology given but i can't figure out what the apology. Sorry for having planned a racially segregated Christmas event that excludes white people or sorry if white people got offended by finding out there was a racially segregated Christmas event that excluded them. It's ok though because there will be a Christmas event later that isn't racially segregated so it's all good.

An official within the Boston mayor’s office has apologized for sending an invite for an “Electeds of Color Holiday Party” to all city councillors.

Mayor Michelle Wu’s director of City Council relations Denise DosSantos sent an email Tuesday for a party the following day meant for six minority councillors, but instead invited all 13 members of council.

Minutes later, DosSantos – a Black woman from Cape Verde – apologized for the confusion in a follow-up email.

“I wanted to apologize for my previous email regarding a Holiday Party for tomorrow,” DosSantos wrote, according to the Boston Herald . “I did send that to everyone by accident, and I apologize if my email may have offended or came across as so. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.”

Ricardo Patron, a Wu spokesperson, said the mayor – an Asian-American woman – was asked to host the party, one of many this month.

All they have to do in the announcement is write "Elected Officials of Color Party" but "Everyone is invited/welcome".

They have similar parties and associations where I am like Hispanic Heritage Party or Asian & Pacific Islander Dance, but the invite always announces "all is welcome".

It sounds like much ado about nothing. The whites are not members of the Elected Officials of Color organization which is the real reason they weren't invited. The party is for organization members.

There are many women only professional organizations, groups, clubs, gyms, etc.. I knew someone who belonged to many different ethnic and religious group professional organizations to network. White elected officials should just join the organization if they want to attend the party.

2 A long winded way of saying racially segregated events are fine as long as those excluded are white. Segregation due to race used to be something that was fought against.

Historically, whites have belonged to groups like the NAACP. White men can join the political POC group. Just pay membership dues.

Let me complete the sentence. No group segregates more than white Christian males which is the reason there are POC groups attempting to fight back against racism like the NAACP.

The black Italians must be Italian group members and have paid membership fees before going to a members' only event.

Do you think that Trump will allow me to hangout at Mar-a-Lago without paying the initial $200,000 membership fee and then $20,000 annual dues?

They're mainly white? So, they don't discriminate based on skin color like the Boston holiday party did? It is a party for elected officials that uninvited white elected officials when they were accidentally invited. The reason they were uninvited is because they were white. At no point did I hear anyone say they can go to the racially segregated party if they join a group that is for elected officials of color.

I actually agree with you. The problem is that that the apology made it clear that is was sent out by accident, and everyone wasn’t invited. It honestly sounds like they weren’t even supposed to know about it.

If they had just not addressed it, and said it’s a party celebrating the council members of color, but whoever wants to go, can. It wouldn’t be an issue.

Just have a party that has nothing to do with skin color and everyone can go. Why celebrate people who aren't white. Being non-white doesn't make anyone special and worthy of celebration.

It’s a bit weird to do as a Christmas party, but we celebrate diversity all the time. Almost every group has their own day, or month. I don’t think it’s bad to recognize differences, or acknowledge progress as long as it’s not done in a way that excludes people. Which is what we have here.

Some don't have to hide it but get to wear it as a badge of honor. Wu went ahead with her segregated holiday party where everyone no matter your faith, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, race etc can attend just not white people. They showed up proudly in front of the media like it was a red-carpet event. Guaranteed at some point she and the other attendees will be painted as the victims of a right wing/white supremacist mob if any criticism continues.
