California fast-food workers to make $20/hr

"Starting April 1, 2024, the minimum wage for the state's 500,000 fast-food workers will increase to $20 per hour. The average hourly wage in 2022 was $16.21."
I got blurb that said McDonald's would pay 23 or 24 per hour (accidentally deleted that and couldn't find it again--but I know it was 23 or 24.)

reply

They already charge too much for the food. I stopped going, it's just not good enough food to pay that much for.

reply

Pretty much... It's actually healthier to skip lunch and intermittent fast, than it is eating expensive, processed foods that make you obese.

reply

You're right, they're almost up to restaurant prices for fast food. Fuck em.

reply

how much do they charge?

McDonalds is cheap as fuck in the UK , and cheaper still in US I thought.
£1.20 for a cheesburger. how cheap do you want it?

reply

I think some of the value menu stuff is still cheaper like a plain cheeseburger but it really isn't edible. They've also made it so the sizes are smaller, but the main stuff is way more expensive then it was. I should not complain because now I don't even consider it when I'm rushing around.

reply

Managers everywhere preparing for employees to request lowering of hours to maintain welfare benefits...

reply

I can make a whole bunch of tacos with 20 dollars.

reply

I just bought a JumboJack (no cheese) and it was just a patty in a bun--no ketchup, no lettuce or tomato-- nothing!

reply

the suffering will be legendary

reply

The SEIU public school cafeteria ladies will now be demanding a 30% wage increase.

reply

Politicians are too stupid to realize this is just going to result in MORE AUTOMATION and more JOB CUTS, and of course HIGHER PRICES. Liberal BS because the hidden agenda is the liberals want more "dumb people" and "young people" votes, in addition to pushing the Vegan agenda.

The only part I agree with is that might as well have corporations paying welfare rather than the State.

reply

Corporations make such absurd profits they should be donating billions for social programs.

reply

That's basically one of the hidden agendas here, is to move those workers off welfare, by having corporations push them over the welfare ceiling. Then penalize people who eat fast food, because they're now having to pay higher prices.

reply

The hidden agenda is how people are too busy demanding things from their government, which is just a conduit for corporations, so they should skip the middle man and demand/boycott/protest them instead. Voting is useless now that the government is a uniparty pretending to fight over crumbs, while they feast.

reply

That entire segment of restaurants will be automated going forward. It’s also getting cheaper and cheaper to obtain the equipment and technology.

I can’t eat super processed food at my age. Fast food is a thing of the past for me.

reply

More technology jobs, I'm all for that. Maybe force younger people to actually pay attention in High School when they realize there are fewer and fewer unskilled jobs available.

reply

Most of the equipment will be made overseas. I might see manual labor like carpentry, brick and construction work on the rise!

reply

True the Mfg. is done overseas because Labor Unions have made such unrealistic salary demands, but at least the design and brainwork is done here in US.

reply

right on!
More automation and a shorter working week for all.

otherwise what's the point?
