January 6th riot is worse because the President was attempting to overturn the election. Trump was trying to exert pressure on Pence to not certify the results of the election and he sent his supporters to the Capitol to do his dirty work. Trump even had a "stop the steal" rally before sending the crowds to the Capitol.

There could have been a riot somewhere. The US now has riots every few months so I can't keep track of them all. The riots used to happen every twenty years but there has been at least one per year over the last decade. There were a few celebrities griping about the election but I don't believe Hillary Clinton was actively trying to overturn the election.

Al Gore did have a valid legal challenge in the state of Florida since a lot of votes were not counted. There was a whole controversy over hanging chads and butterfly ballots. Al Gore wanted to have a recount in Florida but the Supreme Court stopped the recount. I've seen zero evidence of Hillary Clinton attempting to overturn the election.

I believe one of the committee's goals is to prevent Trump from running for office again and the Republicans will quietly thank the Democrats for their efforts. It might be a waste of time since Trump will NEVER win another election.
