After letting it sink in, I'm good with it. The old pedo provoked a confrontation and deserved the punch in the face. The kid didn't mean to kill him, but pedo hit the floor really hard and died. It falls under, play stupid games, win stupid prizes. No point in filling up the prison system with unintentional killers.

I don't begrudge the kid for punching the old bastard, but unfortunately his shriveled heart chose that time to finally die, and some sort of punishment needs to be handed down. Two years house arrest seems appropriate considering the circumstances.

The punch was fine. He definitely earned that! His resulting death however turned this into a crime, hence the house arrest.

shareTechnically as adults, we shouldn't be hitting anyone of any age outside of self-defense. That said, it would be naïve as hell to think you can say vile or hateful shit to provoke someone and be surprised when the situation turns physical. Being old won't give you a pass on this either.
That's why judges have discretion on sentences. Take into account the context of the entire situation and hand out a sentence that's fair. For accidently killing an old pedophile racist who by all accounts was a poor excuse for a human being, 2 years house arrest seems fair.
