Why isn't communism popular in America?

Since the good old days of the 1960s, post WWII economic boom, America has changed and is continuing to change.

What is this change? Wealth distribution.

The middle class is being guttered with the rich and poor both growing in numbers.

So unless you're the next Amazon or Google, you're probably noticing your wealth and purchasing power is declining.

Besides plans to tax the super rich, there is no plan to change the distribution of wealth.

At what point do Americans cop onto the fact that their economic system is making them collectively poorer?

reply

I think you mean Socialism. Communism is late/last stage.

reply

Socialism is just governments subsidizing it's citizens. Communism fundamentally tries to correct the errors of capitalism, as is playing out in America with the middle class shrinking.

They're all interconnected. Late stage Capitalism -> Socialism -> Late stage Socialism -> Communism

Funny thing is some use both of those terms interchangeably or just point authoritative dictators as such although it seems the ones that have gone with these reforms seem to turn dictatorial in the end for some reason.

reply

All countries are socialist. The OP is asking about communism.

reply

"The goal of socialism, is communism."

The GOP crowd allowed themselves to be brainwashed by right-wing media.

They will gladly die from covid, drown during the climate crises, allow their children to be shot in school and go broke. They follow Fox and other propaganda which tells them only capitalism is good.

Take a good look at the Q-Anon idiots and the morons who smashed their way into the Capitol. They are a whole new level of stupid.

Democrats are trying base income. I like the Star Trek idea. Ditch all money. Or follow the Norwegian model.

reply

The "Norwegian model" is oil. Is that what you want?

reply

correction - Nordic economic model

The U.S. was moving in that direction until the late 1970s when the rich decided to fight back.

An excellent best-selling book that details what was done to create today's income inequality:
Evil Geniuses: The Unmaking of America by Kurt Anderson.

Communism isn’t popular anywhere. It was responsible for 100,000,000 deaths in the 20th century.

It benefits no one but the few in charge.

People will not be slaves. They will not work for free. Therefore neither communism or socialism work. Hence why they’ve always failed every time they’ve ever been tried.

theres been quite a few tries yes
They just didnt do it right

I still believe theres some middle ground system that could work that doesent involve out and out capitalism , which seems to me like a growth-dependent ponzi scheme that will destroy the earth while makiing the rich poor divide ever larger in a death spiral to disaster - like the OP said

"theres been quite a few tries yes

Almost made me laugh when I read that. I mean, you are aware that that's the joke told about socialism, right? Like, "Yeah, I know socialism/communism killed millions of people, but that only because it wasn't done right."

The funniest one I've seen is a meme that shows Dory (the forgetful fish) from Finding Nemo. At the top of the meme it says, "I can't believe our socialist utopia collapsed."

And at the bottom it says, "Hey, let's try socialism!"

Perfectly demonstrates the mindset of socialists, and your comment.

"I still believe theres some middle ground system that could work that doesent involve out and out capitalism"

On the other hand, capitalism has shown it can work. Capitalism has pulled the world out of poverty, and has created countries that people run to, instead of run away from like socialist/communist countries. Remember the wall they built to keep people in who wanted to risk their lives to get away from Marxism? And the wall being proposed now to keep too many people from joining a capitalist country?

The evidence is not on your side.

reply

What's your definition of socialism? Is Norway, Sweden and Finland socialist?

reply

A better question would be: “why is communism so unpopular in communist countries”?

Or maybe:”why do communist countries build walls to keep people in?”

Or perhaps:”why do people risk death to get away from communist countries?”

Or if you will:”why do communists have to ban free speech so people can’t talk about their failed policies?”

And lastly:”why has the US Democrat party been staunch supporters of communist countries around the world since the 1960s when they killed over 100 million people in the 20th century?”

reply

It is popular in America. Don’t you know any progressives?

reply

Because communism is pure evil.
