I've found that some actors, without being entirely aware that they're doing it, engage in a bit of "self-parody", as well.
I think it's contradictory. Especially because social media doesn't do it to them. If they get on social media and post whatever, they are making themselves less mysterious. If they kept off it and to themselves except to film and promote, they could maintain their anonymity, but that's their choice.
