I agree with Shakespeare in Love. That movie was so overrated, and not at all accurate for the times it was portraying.

shareThe Oscars have become a parody. Stopped giving special attention to movies getting recognition from the academy years ago.
The final drop was with "The Hurt Locker" receiving 6 awards including best picture. Horrible shaky cam with a politically distorting story of events from Iraq. Only watched half of it and never came back. Best picture of the year?!? Crazy..
I wasn't big on The Hurt Locker because I found it pretty bland, but I didn't really detect any political agenda. It just seemed like a straightforward war movie. There was nothing in the movie that suggested that the Iraq War was a bad or good idea.
shareWell, I only saw half of it and stayed away from it since, but if memory serves me right basically all the natives where portrayed as possible terrorists and all the paranoid aggressive security measures the americans were taking is shown to be justified. Straight forward yes, but making strong (and in my opinion distorting) portrayals of local people and scenarioes in what was then a very fresh (and in many ways still ongoing) political situation in the middle east.

shareNo way. I don't think the movie shows Iraqi locals in bad light at all. Which scene made you think so? If anything, by the end of the movie you feel pity for the American protagonist who is directionless and devoid of true purpose.

They actually snubbed Raiders of the Lost Ark over this dog turd.
It was the last time I watched any Awards show - (all politics)
No one mentioned the one of the worst movies that won...CRASH. What a piece of crap.
shareOh, I love Chariots of Fire. Raiders of the Lost Ark was a great movie but Chariots was special to me. I'm not sure why. I'm not a runner or anything but I like the theme of those unlikely teammates winning the Olympics.
