That was cringe AF. Why do we need gay angels in children's stories (whether book or TV show)?
No, there would be differences. There are different factions within the corporate oligarchy. The interests of these various factions are represented by the different parties. So if you have a democrat in office, it might be Big Tech and Big Pharma. If you have a Republican, it might be Oil companies like Chevron and ExxonMobil. But no matter which party it is, Goldman Sachs will always be represented. Unless you have more people like Bernie Sanders (Just with a backbone).
Oh, and as for The Squad, they started out with huge potential. I knew of AOC a year before she became a congress woman. I know the person who founded the Justice Democrats; The organization she joined and the platform she ran on. We were all very excited. Fast forward 5 years, and she sold everyone out. She is now just a careerist. She betrayed her left wing base. She was literally sent there to stand up to Pelosi. The Justice Democrats were supposed to be a hostile takeover of the Democratic party by Progressives. In the end they all caved and submitted to the Dems. They vote in lockstep with the rest of them. The Squad is only progressive in their rhetoric not their actions. What's the point of not taking corporate money if you are just going to vote and support the people who do?

First of all I'm not a right winger. I'm a far left wing socialist. Second, I'm independent in the sense that I vote Green Party (A left wing party). Both parties are corrupt. It doesn't matter that one is less corrupt (arguable!) than the other. They both are beyond the pale. This is akin to saying that one person taking a school test scored a 42% and the other scored a 37%. Is there a difference? Well that depends on what you mean by a difference. When you say there is a difference you are speaking in a technical sense that 42-37 is 5. So there is a 5% difference. But the difference I'm talking about is whether either side passed the test. In that case the answer is an obvious NO. They both received an F, so in that sense they are no different.
Politics now is all burlesque. The parties have both sold you out years ago. You don't live in a democracy, you live in a corporate oligarchy, where your rights as a citizen no longer exist except as theater.
You are living in a country that has the largest surveillance apparatus in human history, functionally eliminating your privacy (Bush). A country where corporations control the digital public square and have imposed draconian censorship effectively circumventing your first amendment rights (Democrats). A country where habeas corpus and the right to due process has been abolished (Obama's NDAA). A country that locks up it's poor people where they are subjected to cruel and unusual punishment (Joe Biden's 1994 Crime bill).
Pretty much every principle in the constitution has been systematically violated. Given these facts, I thinks it's reasonable to conclude that this government is, without question, illegitimate. We live in a failed system.
You sound like an unhinged partisan hack. Free yourself from the pro-war, anti-worker, imperialist duopoly.
Here is the best analogy I've heard that explains the duopoly:
Imagine you're in a restaurant. You have a choice between two waiters one is a Republican and is a little bit uptight. The other is a Democrat and is friendly. But the food is the same regardless of which waiter you choose. It's all made by the same chef (corporate oligarchy) in the kitchen.
If you didn't know that you live in a corporate oligarchy, well, now you know.
Of course not. They are in the woke cult; Where the alphabet people are the saints and nobles that must be glorified and celebrated everywhere all the time, slavery is the original sin that we must all constantly atone for, and white supremacy must be defeated at all cost, for it is the greatest threat to our civilization. And like a proper cult, if you are not pious enough (not virtue signaling enough), or you don't fully commit to every precept of woke orthodoxy, you will be excommunicated, and branded a heretic. And being a heretic is even worse than being an infidel (deplorable).
It is true. Democrats are as bad as Republicans, they just pretend not to be.
And as for social media, did you not see Matt Taibbi's reporting on the Twitter files? How heavily the company was biased in favor of liberals, and how they censored conservatives?
You forgot to add "/s" to your post to denote sarcasm.
I agree films are shit now, but this also affects TV shows. And there are still good TV shows being made but are often ruined by woke bullshit (forced diversity, intersectional feminism, race swapping, gender swapping etc.)
It was nice to see Hiro Nakamura (Heroes) and Kimiko (The Boys) as the Ticket guy and concession lady respectively.
Lots of great actors in general. I liked it too.
Just search for "diversity standards Hollywood", you'll see plenty of articles about The Academy forcing movies to be diverse, about laws in California being passed to force movie production teams to have representation, and many other ways of pressuring film makers to submit to the diversity/inclusion/representation cult. Go see for yourself.
As for Little Italy, yes, here in Chicago it's primarily an Italian neighborhood. I lived in the Polish Village, next to it, where as you might have guessed, is mostly polish immigrants. There are no black people in these neighborhoods (not literally, but 99% white). If you go to the south east side of Chicago, it's 99.9% black. So yes, in these neighborhoods, you don't have much diversity. They prefer to stick with their own.
I can't stand Woke movies (forced diversity, intersectional feminism, etc.), and I don't consider this movie 'woke', or at least not so woke that it takes away from the story. Is there diversity? Yes, a lot of it. But it doesn't feel forced, except maybe the twins, a little bit, but even that works. Buddy (in this case brothers) interracial duos has been a thing for decades, long before Hollywood became woke, so it's nothing to get in a twist over.
As far as the movie goes, it's pretty good. Someone on another thread described it as Kill Bill meets John Wick, that sounds about right.
Give it a go. As an 'anti-wokie', I recommend it.
correctamundo!
How is my response all over the place? I thought it was thorough. I explained the current state of Hollywood (as opposed to how it was pre 2015), and the role race, diversity, and wokeness plays in it (no pun intended). I addressed your points and gave you some insight into my thinking with respect to the entertainment industry .
Movies like The Hangover would not be allowed to be made today because it's not diverse enough. Many movie studios have implemented diversity/inclusion standards that pretty much force writers and movie makers to have a diverse cast. The Academy (Oscars) have also implemented such standards. In order for your movie to qualify for nomination it must adhere to those standards. This is what I mean by forced diversity.
As for Ticket to Paradise, I think it's a special case, precisely because it's staring George Clooney and Julia Roberts. They are good friends and like to work together. Given how much power they have in Hollywood, an exception in this case was made.
A better example would have been The Northman. That movie had an all-white cast (literally). But that is extraordinarily rare these days. I honestly have no idea how they got away with it. Maybe it was made outside of the Hollywood studio system.
Regarding the American audience, I don't actually think it's true that Americans want to see this precisely because it's not a realistic depiction of their world. There are many places across the country where people like to stick with their own. There's a reason why you have places like China Town, Little Italy, Polish Village, and the south east side (black) of Chicago. Many people don't live in diverse areas, so they are not used to everything looking like a rainbow flag. College students on the other hand, who are indoctrinated into the Woke cult, are. Both of these groups live in their own bubbles. It's just that the latter group wants to impose their culture onto the former. They want everyone to worship diversity like they do.
Par for the course in Woke World. Hope this culture collapses soon, so that something better can rise from its ashes.
Wokeness poisons everything.
If the color really doesn't matter, than by your own logic you should be fine with an all white cast. After all, what's the difference if you don't zero in on the color? In fact, if you truly believe that color doesn't matter, then you should also be fine with having Tom Cruise play Martin Luther King Jr. in a film. Now whether you truly care about color or not, doesn't really matter, but Hollywood clearly does, otherwise they wouldn't care about diversity. If it makes me a racist to want to see movies with white people, then by the same logic, it makes Hollywood racist for wanting to specifically cast black people (or any other minorities) because they want them to be represented. Color matters to them, so why can't it matter to me?
Also, there is nothing contrived about an all-white film, whether you're making a period piece, or doing a movie about a town that is mostly white, you should be able to make such a movie. There is nothing wrong with having an all white cast. Pre 2015 this was the norm, but after 2015, it's nearly impossible to be able to do that. Because of the diversity standards that have been implemented by the studios, you, as a film maker, are now forced to have a diverse cast, even if it doesn't make sense for the story. Like when they cast some black female to play the role of Anne Boleyn (wife of Henry the VIII and the queen of England, who we know historically to have been fair skinned). This is as absurd as casting Tom Cruise to play Martin Luther King Jr.
Also, when I say I want an "all-white cast", I don't even really mean literally all white in every role. In most cases, I just mean the main cast. Take for example The Hangover, it's not literally an all white cast, but the main cast is four straight white males. If this movie was made today, at least one of them would have to be black (probably would have to make one of them queer as well). Movies like 'The Hangover' are not allowed to be made anymore, and that bothers me.
It bothers me because it's shoehorned in. Pre 2015, there were movies/shows with interracial couples, there was diversity, but it didn't feel forced. Ever since 2015 it's become nearly impossible to have movies that have only white casts (although it's still okay to have only black casts), and that's what bothers me. To put it simply I want a truly diverse environment for movies (like pre 2015), meaning that I want movies with all white casts, all black casts (or any other minority), and mixed diverse casts. What I don't want is ONLY mixed diverse casts. I don't mind seeing interracial couples occasionally, what I don't want is for them to be shoehorned in to so many movies/shows that it no longer feels natural. It also feels like I'm being social engineered into some extreme version of woke progressive ideology and I resent that, even if I share some of these progressive views.
I'll definitely give it a pass.
Stop peddling woke garbage, I'm not interested in your wares.

She's gorgeous. Definitely top tier.
