Thank you for this thoughtful response. I guess this was promoted as an important thriller and as a film there is spectacle. You get a priviledged "inside look" at what so few get to see. Am I right about that?
So naturally, on the one hand I am impressed with the fine filmmaking and details shown - this is interesting. But overall it is wild woke fiction and frankly could easily have been science fiction - why not make the reveal an alien.
This makes me question how far removed this institution is from the actual source, even if two millenium in the making.
Just FYI, I have been to Rome, and fortunate enough to see and hear Pope John Paul II at St. Peter's Square.
I was just about to post the same thing! I was wondering who this lady was and was stunned it was Famke Janssen.
I think the filmmakers did not shoot her in the best angles, and perhaps her makeup was off.
Well i enjoyed the filmmaking and the performances were great. Is this really an accurate portrayal of the inner workings of something privvy to only a select group? My point is ...who cares?...and these devoted people, so concerned with their ruminations and intrigue...over nothing at all really.
It is just humans overly complicating things and in my opinion they are scurring around with pointy hats and garbs and it is much adu about nothing at all.
How did you find it?
Great to share our enjoyment of this Classic!...let's not forget about the other great Robert Wise musical, The Sound of Music! I have to say that is my favorite musical.

I think everything. They are so concerned about choosing the Pope, or not to be the Pope, also in woke Hollywood fashion, in what is supposed to be a shocking twisting a hermophrodite. Overall, so what? They have elaborate buildings, rituals...for what? I think Roman Catholics are far removed from the original God of the Hebrews as can be...as I understand it Judaism's one God or or Yahweh. Overall, I think I pity them. They honestly look like silly, flawed and misguided clowns. I am sorry to disparage a religion but it is hard not to.
Great points about Chekov! Well Khan, knows Chekov so he apparently met him or studied the crew manifest in sickbay so Chekov was onboard somehow.
If TWOK is your least favorite...which do you consider the best????
I consider TWOK a very close #2 overall. TMP is a cerebral and epic Trek and the best in my books.

Well Chekov may or may not have been on the Enterprise when they first encountered him. This was in Season 1 of TOS and he certainly was not on the bridge crew - maybe on the lower decks working his way up! Walter Koenig aka Chekov joined the show in Seasons 2 and 3. So we can forgive him for not remembering...what is weird is that they didn't know Ceti Alpha V from VI. Yes a weird plot hole. Why not beam everyone up in the Genesis Cave... anyhow a really fun and entertaining movie.

I could not watch the "special edition" with the walkie talkies replacing guns and a Roger Rabbit stylized E.T.
Haha! I remember those days. With no VCR and limited TV...movies were so much bigger and magical.
