My favorite version is one I can't find anywhere today. i don't even know what it is called but it's likely from the 90s when I saw the movie on TV for the first time. It was a continuous song that played for the whole movie. The style is hard to describe, but it was atmospheric synth music. No orchestral instruments, no singing and no techno beats. It was very fitting for the movie. I checked the Wikipedia list of alternate soundtracks from before 2000 and none of them seems to be it: In 1975, the BBC provided an electronic score composed by William Fitzwater and Hugh Davies.[45] In 1978, Australian composer Chris Neal created an experimental score for the film. It was performed live around Sydney throughout 1979. In 1984, Giorgio Moroder restored and produced the 80-minute 1984 re-release, which had a pop soundtrack written by Moroder and performed by Moroder, Pat Benatar, Bonnie Tyler, Jon Anderson, Adam Ant, Cycle V, Loverboy, Billy Squier, and Freddie Mercury. In 1991, the Club Foot Orchestra created an original score that was performed live with the film. It was also recorded for CD. In 1994, Montenegrin experimental rock musician Rambo Amadeus wrote his version of the musical score for Metropolis. At the screening of the film in Belgrade, the score was played by the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1998, the material was recorded and released on the album Metropolis B (tour-de-force).[46] In 1996, the Degenerate Art Ensemble (then The Young Composers Collective) scored the film for chamber orchestra, performing it in various venues including a free outdoor concert and screening in 1997 in Seattle's Gasworks Park.[47] The soundtrack was subsequently released on Un-Labeled Records. In 2000, Jeff Mills created a techno score for Metropolis which was released as an album. He also performed the score live at public screenings of the film. I prefer the 80s' version so far. I like how it puts us in the shoes of Blackthorne by not giving us subtitles. All the characters are more likable in in that version too. Especially Mariko and Blackthorne. The new serie has too many "videogame moments" for my liking. The throat slitting female ninja, the weird ship duel between Anjin and Rodrigues, Mariko polearm fighting, the super accurate cannons shooting at samurais and arrows flying in slow motion in front's of Mariko's eyes. The 1980's version had its budgetary limits, but it was shot in Japan with Japanese actors, consultants and James Clavell himself was involved in making it. My only true gripe with the old show are the obvious bald caps and wigs worn by the samurai actors to simulate chonmage. Strangest of all, Mariko's wig which lowers her hairline and gives her a small forehead (it's worse in some scenes). I don't understand why they couldn't just use the actress's natural hair. Those things didn't bother me back in the days on a 4:3 TV, but in HD, it's made worse. https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMTAzNjA1NDY3NjVeQTJeQWpwZ15BbWU4MDkyNTQzMDIx._V1_.jpg https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BNzc3OTMwOTY5N15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwOTU1MDg2OA@@._V1_FMjpg_UX1000_.jpg I liked it better than 4. I'm glad they didn't go into more theatrics like samurai bowling. She's basically Lewis from Robocop, but with big boobs and blonde hair. https://live.staticflickr.com/5581/14425841508_ede6b70bda_b.jpg Like many people with unusual features, she was cute when she was young. But unusual as a tendency to turn ugly with age. Another case: Lily Cole. The whole doll head thing looks cute at 20. Kinda freakish at 40. These 2 were quite funny in their prime. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8ZF_R_j0OY It's the worst episode so far. The biggest departure from the source material. Mariko is smug and unpleasant. Omi is a brat. So is Toranaga's wimpy son. Yabu is a buffoon. Anjin's Hatamoto title is not respected by anyone. There's zero chemistry between him and Mariko. At that point in the story, Anjin's interest in Japanese culture should be growing, but he's still the angry sailor hurling insults at everyone. Obviously the studio pushing for "flavor of the month diversity actress" and someone that would make kids want to watch Dune. No way she was the best actress for the role. Florence Pugh and Anya Taylor-Joy are also flavor of the month casting. "Denis. These 2 have been in every movies made in the least few years, we need them in Dune!" Ridley Scott is old and out of touch. Episode 3, at about 24 minutes. Seeing Mariko kill half a dozen trained warriors with a spear was ridiculous and completely out of character. "over a month" "in a couple of weeks" Are you retarded. No. Her tattoos are a bit lame, but her breasts are prefect for her size. The lack of subtitles is what made the TV show great. As a viewer, you were lost and confused just like Blackthorne. Looks like any other fantasy movie taking place in Asia. Also, why are the villagers all armed? The shootout would make more sense if the villagers were just distracting the bandits while the 3 amigos took the real shots. With the dozens of revolvers, they could have overwhelmed the bandits even without amigo costumes. Nowadays she looks almost like Sharon Stone or Gillian Anderson shortly after they peaked. It seems like she stopped injecting her lips. https://www.celebsline.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Estella-Warren-Biography.jpg Classic. Florence Pugh, like Zendaya, seems completely out of place in the Dune universe.
