what exactly prevent him from feeling like "actual character"? do you need to know the history his parents it order to convince you of something? how many children he has? he has something to say so he says it.
it seems you didn't understand the meta referencing that nolan was aiming for.

i had a problam with that aswell in my first viewing but after thinking about that i understood, and my eyes open to just how much clever the movie really is.
the thing is, just as the subject of the dream fills in the gaps with his subconscious- the viewer does that aswell. fisher get to that conclusion not from some kind of analytical or logical moves of an event - but out of the precpetive of the auidience. WE ARE THE ONES who filles in the gaps because we know what is supposed to happen.
