I’m 3 eps in and loving it. I love books and films with Indian culture; I don’t think there’s too much in this series, but I do think viewers with little to no experience with Indian culture will miss some of the jokes. (e.g. how long Bollywood movies are.)
Yup. Sad. (Not just Christians.)
Forgot to say, I think they rated it tv 14 because Of the unwed pregnant woman and the cheating history. I don’t think viewers need to be 14 for that, but I’m sure a lot of religious conservatives would.
I know! They wouldn’t even use the word ass! They used terms like rear end and fanny! I haven’t heard those words since 1966!
Why should that matter? Previously they used the Wool Waulking Song and other Great historical pieces that were very unfamiliar to US viewers.
If they had just chosen an old world folk song rather than Clementine, I wouldn’t quibble. 😉
ITA. When I realized they were going there, I had to leave the room. Enough is enough. The impact of Claire’s strength and determination are just lost because rape has already ben so overused in the series. Pretty much everyone has been raped now. Who is left? Who will be next? Roger? Baby Jemmy?
Thank you so much for responding!
I thought it was because Jemmy liked Clementine the best of all the songs Roger sang. But imo it was not a good choice.
During previous seasons of Outlander I thought the music team had done a great job of using music from the era and culture. But this season was a missed opportunity and a huge disappointment. Now, learning that in the books, Roger was a serious “collector” of cultural (folk) music, makes me even more bummed about this than I was before. I wonder if the writing team chose Clementine, perhaps even against the recommendations of the music team? Ugh.
The women in this series are all awful. Not admirable at all. Did Gregory think she was portraying strength and power in these female characters? All they care about is taking Revenge and triumphing over each other. Their chief weapons are Twisting facts, spreading malicious gossip, and manipulation.
The men are all horrible too. The whole court is plagued by and influenced by petty jealousy. They all covet each others wealth and power. Nothing is ever enough. Edward was weak and stupid, and the rest just circled around him trying to get everything they could. And they all have fragile egos that must constantly be stroked and placated.
They all complained about — no, make that “they all RAGED about” — Rebecca Ferguson’s queen pressuring and influencing Edward. Yet they did it more than she did, esp. Warwick, George, Cecily and later, Anne.
There was not one single character, Apart from Jaquetta, who showed good sense, or understood what it meant to exude dignified nobility. Certainly no characters with true majesty or regalness.
She probably was working, just not on tv or cinema. She is also a stage actor, like most uk actors
What evidence do you have that the prefrontal cortex developed more quickly in that era?
“ The rational part of a teen’s brain isn’t fully developed and won’t be until age 25 or so.
In fact, recent research has found that adult and teen brains work differently. Adults think with the prefrontal cortex, the brain’s rational part. This is the part of the brain that responds to situations with good judgment and an awareness of long-term consequences. Teens process information with the amygdala. This is the emotional part.”

If you had watched it via Apple TV, you could have watched 3 eps before having to subscribe to epix.
I’m waiting until all eps have come out on epix; then I’ll sign uo for a free trial.
I only asked if you’d read it; I didn’t mean it was required.
I wasn’t expecting the servants to have their own storylines.
I don’t enjoy it as much, either — although I don’t miss the over-indulgent sex scenes. I miss Scotland. I loved the Scottish characters, traditions, etc. The New World isn’t as interesting to me because I’ve studied it and visited historic site all my life.
Amazon wasn’t a partner yet during production. They bought in afterward
Four episodes for a long Trollope novel but 6 episodes for Fellowes’s own novel, Belgravia.
Wow, insulting much? Most people’s imagination would be up to the task. That’s such a load of hooey.
I call BS. Imo Fellowes simply didn’t feel up to the task. He took the lazy way out.
