You are defining a "type" of hero arc, the traditional, mostly related to the "hero's journey", this thread was not started discussing if this was the best or worst movie, it was about a supposedly "anti-gay message" in the movie which I don't see, if anything it helps bring up problems that homosexuals, blacks, immigrants (the russian communists) and people with a disability had to endure around that time. The story arc of the gay fellow is weak?, YES you could say that, he needed a little more character development, but he is NOT the hero, he is the narrator of the story from the very beginning, the only one telling the whole story from his perspective, the real hero of this is the Amphibian Man, if you want to see someone defeating his or her weaknesses that is the Amphibian Man and Elisa Esposito, you could call them both heroes by the definition that you want to see. It is never explained in detail, what you hear in the movie is what we know for now I think, you could call it a story macguffin to have her being mute and have the scars in the shape of gills, I almost saw it coming from the very beginning that she would turn into a fish lady by the end because of the shape of her scars, I just enjoyed the movie for what it was, a low budget film with a fantasy story. You are making an ocean from a pond, you are creating your own story arc and character development with a 21st century setting instead of a mid 20th century setting, being gay in that time was a little less than a rapist and child molester (instantly once you were out), there was no understanding nor support, you should know that if you are talking about gay representation in movies. To me he being gay in the movie had nothing to do with being rejected at work or even less with the racist dinner guy, which apparently hated way more the blacks than the white gay people, he was a common racist homophobic, hate everything and everyone that is different mid 20th century male. He was shown dealing with being gay in a terrible time, being strong with a deep desire to find love but just chose the wrong person, just like anyone else from any sexual preference or identity from that time or the present time. He was shown with normal insecurities about his body, not just because he was gay but because he was a human, just like any other heterosexual male that dye their hair when they are turning grey or buy a hair piece or shave their head, it is called insecurities and every human being has them, no need to associate a single one to his sexual preference or identity on this movie. He could have been heterosexual and you would change almost nothing on the story and the same problems would apply, change the racist dinner guy with a racist dinner girl that rejects him because of something else, make him maybe a little shyer, there, you have a complete change to heterosexual and the exact same problems would apply, the hair loss problems, the work problems, without having to associate them to his sexuality. It was explained clearly in the movie, it was implanted on several replicants to scramble the trace of the replicant's son (later revealed to be a daughter, the same dream maker) and to make all of the replicants think they were important, K was not the only replicant with the same dream, they might not have a way to check for every dream to see which were real or fabricated. From Phantom Menace onwards, I can't remember if I watched also before the special editions rereleased on cinema a few years before that. I was too young or no access/money to a cinema to see the other ones even on rereleases. Wouldn't that be a nice one episode series? You have a crime infested area and I have to fix it?, hell no, I am moving, THE END. Not watching the next film unless the imdb rating is above or really close to 8.5 after a few weeks, never buying digital or physical copies of this movie. No he is not. It is a fictional alternate universe, where nuclear wars decimated the planet, if you go to 1850 and say that in about 50 years you will have flying vehicles and also the first commercial flight a little later, most people would laugh in your face and call you crazy. Now move to 1950 and say that in about 50 years you will have a complete world network of devices some so small that fit in your hand and so powerful as to store entire libraries and have access to it instantly, most of the people in the whole world would laugh again at you and call you crazy, just think how different the world would be if the USA would have turned full communist (hardcore not just a few ideas) in the 20th century, the internet would not exist at all or not even close to what we know now. We do have the means to have flying cars similar to the ones in this movie by the time proposed on the movie, the problem is that there has not been enough motivation to make the jump to a full investment and implementation. Maybe in the movie universe the lack of some laws (you know, having complete wastelands all over the world kind of change your priorities on life) allowed to move faster with the development of that technology, just like how they allow "human" bodies (the replicants) harvesting and manipulation, maybe nobody tough twice about the implication of flying cars or their autopilots were so advanced by that time. Couldn't even finish the first episode, I found it so boring and meaningless, you have to watch it for yourself and see what you think. Same opinion here, piece of trash I didn't even think about this before but you are right, in the past movies even before he knew she was his sister he went through an entire empire army to save her, later when they are revealed to be siblings he left a solid jedi training and went to scum infested caves to rescue her against all odds. But now, screw her, I am in emo mode and I don't care about anything else in the world because I ALMOST thought of murdering my nephew, there is NO way of going back from that, even though I converted the most evil sith lord in history (Vader) into a good old man and never lost faith in him, I have no salvation and nobody deserves to see me or be helped by me ever again. The movie sucks, it is better to let it die and move forward to other franchises (just like the movie itself says it over and over), it is hard to accept it but it might be like mourning an old friend that had a terrible and unavoidable accident or an incurable disease out of nowhere and you where unable to do anything. Let them burn as much as possible, do not stop people from viewing it for the first time but do not give this crap multiple viewings unless you truly love it, do not "try to understand it" with multiple views, the more you analyze this the less sense it makes and see more and more mistakes, it is not worth it. Another similar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QJRw56cOVw That is a trend that I can't understand, I personally have no problem with remakes that are about the same story or setting if they are really good, hell, even some frame by frame remakes are good, if it is not broken don't "fix" it. To me the problem with remakes is the amount of they are rehashing every year, that is unoriginal, you could have one or two remakes every 3 years or so and that might be OK, just this year there have been SO MANY remakes that I lost count. They can't claim to be "original" when the movie is called the same even if you change the complete plot and setting, you are still ripping off an old movie, if they really wanted something different at least it would be called something else entirely like they tried in the past with Zathura in 2005. From those three I would choose to allow Darth Maul to survive, such an iconic character deserved to continue a little longer. I would add a different route here, I would reveal Jar Jar as the mythical Sith Lord of some wild fan theories, revealing the dork character as the main master mind even more powerful than Palpatine maybe, at least until Palpatine finds a way to kill it. "Jar Jar Binks an Evil Sith Mastermind Theory" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezcP-Ys_voY To most parents their kids never cease to be cute, that kind of cuteness I mean, the way he looked at Han just before killing him making Han think that he was safe with the face he knew for so many years. So, if you dislike the movie: - You are not fan enough apparently (pseudo-fan some say), you either love it or eff you pseudo-fan. - You did not understand the hidden messages even though it is just fan speculation (a way to cope with the loss) on a lazy dead of Luke and a quick way to get rid of the Skywalkers and force the new characters as soon as possible without the weight of the old stories. The Han Solo death was more meaningful to the overall story, there can't be anything darker than killing your own father, luring him with a cute face and giving a faint hope of redemption, that darkness was what the character needed to get closer to what used to be known as the dark side (something that might get blurred in the future movies where they could explore between sides like Rey on this movie). Han didn't have superpowers that could be used like Luke's to defeat the new order that could extend the story, if Luke REALLY wanted to help the resistance he would have gone directly against Snoke himself just like he did against the emperor in the old movies (not what I was expecting at all but it is better speculation than arguing that Luke just wanted to buy the resistance some time to escape). If you like speculations: "Mark Hamill NEVER Knew About Luke's Fate in The Last Jedi?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FntZKz9fXp8 They might have gotten so fed up with the Jedis, the Skywalkers and most of the old movies that they even forced the dead of Luke hiding it from the actors (rampant speculation of course). The only way that I could "defend" this attack (I hated the movie by he way) would be with a variable speed, if you could choose the speed of your ship you could move slower than the required jump speed maintaining you matter and since that matter would expand it could be used to deal a larger hit against something of course you would die in the process also.
