which SW have you seen at cinema

Too young for SW and ESB in fact can vaguely remember wanting to go with older siblings who were going to see ESB but wouldn't take me (despite it being a 'U') as just too young.. can even recall the poster outside the cinema outside when they going in (the 'Gone with Wind' style poster)... but was taken to see Superman II which must've been a few months later which mustve been my first cinema trip (actually almost a year later as SII wasn't released in UK until April'81)

so anyway I was finally taken to see ROTJ in 83 - roughly knew who the characters were etc. At that point in addition to Superman II had seen Star Trek II, Dark Crystal, ET and maybe a couple of others at cinema (i remember i saw a Spiderman movie at the cinema which i later found out was 2-3episodes put together and released as a movie). i was a huge Superman fan

anyway before ROTJ started they showed trailers and one was for Superman III which i had no idea was coming so all i could think about for the duration of the muppets & care bears in space/laser sword&sorcery space movie was Superman III - asking when it was coming out etc. At one point i asked to go to the toilet and while i was weeing i was talking about how good Superman III looked and how i couldn't wait to see it. Then as we were leaving i ask the cinema manager when Superman was out and he took us to this area that had the Superman III coming soon posters, Christopher Reeve standee, lobby cards etc that i hadn't seen when going in and i stared at it for ages trying to figure out if i could steal it all lol

so yeah i didn't have much time for Jedi or SW in general unlike everyone in school who was raving about it. (I didn't even know HFord was Indiana Jones back then or what Indiana Jones was until the following year.) Couple years later i saw SW on tv but wasn't all that impressed. (didnt really get why it was so popular. Much preferred StarTrek movies) Few years later finally rented Empire (as they never showed it on tv like SW77) & rewatched the other 2 and could understand what all the fuss was about.. ( think if I had been taken to see Empire in 1980 probably would've been a Star Wars kid not much Superman/Star Trek)

funny how years later it was the opposite for me –they showed the trailer for the new Superman (BvS) before TFA but I was just like meh who cares, I gotta see SW7!

reply

All of them. I was born in '74.

reply

Empire onwards but not Caravan of Courage. That gem was saved for home viewing.

reply

Everything except A New Hope (I wasn't born yet), and The Last Jedi (I'm done with this bullshit).

ROTJ, 1983, with my sister. I was 10.
The Special Editions as they came out, one by myself, one with one friend and one with another friend.
The Prequels, by myself, several times each.
The Clone Wars movie.
TFA, several times, but hated it in the end.
RO, four times at least and loved it each time.
TLJ, saw twice, went a third time after reading all the criticism, and hated it.

reply

Lol. It sounds like you went to see the ones you didn't like more times than the ones you liked.

reply

I see each one several times, if I can.

I suppose when it came to TFA, I wanted to like it but thought it was just a rehash and just OK, but when I heard about all the hyped praise it was getting and how the characters were so amazing (what a fucking joke) and blahblahblah "brilliant" and the box office was likewise, I turned against it.

reply

From Phantom Menace onwards, I can't remember if I watched also before the special editions rereleased on cinema a few years before that.

I was too young or no access/money to a cinema to see the other ones even on rereleases.

reply

The OT, and the prequels. After the prequels, I lost interest in the entire Saga, other than (very, very) mild curiosity about the new stuff. The reason? It was a huge part of my teen years (I was 13 when the first SW came out in '77).

reply

All except the original trilogy (when Star Wars was really good), which I was not alive for.

I'm trying to go for an entertaining, informative youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see and if you have any thoughts or criticisms, i'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance. Review right here- https://youtu.be/nerCnafPUm8

I've seen them all several times in the theater.
