That name reminds me of that video of the Onion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sw_1CIwwEIA
Haven't watched the Oscars in many years but even I may tune in to see how embarrassing this year's presentation will be.
With even LGBT+ groups hating this film it will become one of the most unpopular Oscar wins ever. And after the controversy surrounding Karla Sofía Gascón's tweets the award presentation itself will set new records of cringe.
That second sentence seems to miss something. Nothing wrong with being politically moderate btw. The world needs more people who are willing to scrutinize the extremes of both the left and the right.
My understanding is that this movie is mostly "triggering" people from Mexico and the Lhbtqia+ community. I can imagine some right wing people being amused by the self-inflicted damage that this movie is doing to itself though.
- The flaws of Dune are no secret (still very much like the film though)
- Wild at Heart is probably not as good as people remember it. I don't really like it anymore.
- I know that it is a classic but I am no fan of Blue Velvet. Can't really describe why.
Of the latter two I wouldn't claim that they are 'bad' though: they are just at the bottom of my list of favorites. On the other hand Dune probably could be called 'bad' but I still like it. So I don't really see David Lynch as having had any truly bad films.
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is definitely underrated btw. Didn't like it in the day because it was so different from the series (and because it was a prequel) but I really like it today.
He made a lot of great films but one of his least typical ones may be my favourite: The Straight Story. Genuinely moving at times and very beautiful.
Twin Peaks (both series) and Mulholland Drive are also high on my list. As are Lost Highway and Inland Empire. The Elephant Man is (again) somewhat unusual for Lynch but still amazing and again quite moving. I care a bit less for Blue Velvet but I will still admit that it is a masterpiece. And Dune is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me.
Surprised to learn that he lives in California. I thought he was all about New York.
The 70's or early 80's. Very happy years.
Absolutely
Lack of charisma is a problem that many current day actors have. Pretty faces all around but nothing sticks out.
Very happy with this release. Unfortunately it doesn't have any extra's but picture and sound are as good as it is ever going to get.

No. First of all this film is a drama and not a political statement. Secondly it is a film from 1959 depicting situations in the 1930's so it should be judged with those periods in mind. Thirdly the hyper sensitive interpretation of the term "racism" of some isn't necessarily the norm today. Some people love to get angry over depictions in films of 66 years ago but seem to sleep well over all sorts of racist wars and racist murders and other crimes that happen today. When some form of media is deemed "racist" in 2025 I almost instantly have my doubts.
The title of this topic sums it up well. I was expecting to be disappointed but it turned out pretty fun. Not a great film and definitely weaker than the first film but fun none the less. Agreed with the 7/10.
They sort of copy and pasted the story of the original film. With some changes here and there. Early on in the film it was a bit irritating but as you said the fun factor distracted enough to make me enjoy the film.
I love Alien3 and it is seriously underrated but the first two films are classics. It is an excellent film but not as good as the first two.
I like it. It isn't a great movie but it is good none the less. It looks great and the story works well for me.
It seems that it was meant to be the lead-in to a sequel that never got made.
Very sad to hear this. Gorgeous actress and the perfect Juliet. 😢
Bookstores seem to be doing fine these days. I know lots of big and small bookstores in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands. When it comes to books consumers still seem to enjoy shopping in physical stores.
