The Straight Story might be his best film, so humanistic and touching, and true! I think of it as a spiritual cousin to the more recent "Lucky" which features Lynch in a bit acting part, Harry Dean Stanton's last film.

1) Mulholland Drive
2) Lost Highway
3) Blue Velvet
4) Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
5) The Straight Story

6) Eraserhead
7) Inland Empire
8) The Elephant Man
9) Wild At Heart
10) Dune

So I guess The Elephant Man, Wild At Heart and Dune are my bottom three. But (aside from Dune) what a strong bottom 3! And the first half of Dune isn't bad at that!

Quite a career in filmmaking - no real duds on that list and several stellar films to boot! Most impressive!

- The flaws of Dune are no secret (still very much like the film though)
- Wild at Heart is probably not as good as people remember it. I don't really like it anymore.
- I know that it is a classic but I am no fan of Blue Velvet. Can't really describe why.

Of the latter two I wouldn't claim that they are 'bad' though: they are just at the bottom of my list of favorites. On the other hand Dune probably could be called 'bad' but I still like it. So I don't really see David Lynch as having had any truly bad films.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is definitely underrated btw. Didn't like it in the day because it was so different from the series (and because it was a prequel) but I really like it today.
