It's on later tonight and I was debating whether to record it but your review has decided me against it. I couldn't even watch 'The Deerhunter' !
Tis the way of the world, I'm afraid.
Candy Apples must be what we call Toffee Apples. I used to love them but wouldn't risk my teeth on them now!
July 2022: not available any more!
That container ship suddenly appearing in the background gave me chills! Very effective I thought, and glad that they spotted him!
It was those horrible flying monkeys that gave me the shivers!
I just rewatched this and couldn't see this at all! You must have a different or extended version!
I thought he sounded Irish at certain times.

And how did the man hired by the dead woman's husband (EG Marshall) know where to position himself with a rifle to shoot Clint when he met up with this daughter at the cafe?
She was OK in this, not one of my favourite actresses - a bit mannered. But it was odd that in this film her eyes looked permanently watering as if she was about to burst into tears. Surprised nobody else has mentioned it.
You're a sick man, Rico.
This explanation had never occurred to me! But it would fit with the context of the scenes in the flat. I don't think it's obvious Alec was also gay though. Bear in mind it was illegal in those days.
No I suppose not. (Ransacks memory....)
Peter Finch overacts wildly in this but he improved as the years went by! Still one of my favourite British films. A grey and dilapidated London still recovering from the war.
That's what I thought just now when I watched this again on Sky! It's a brilliant film but spoilt by this horrible killing, in my opinion. That cat would be OK, it would find other people on other houseboats to look after it! Cats usually have an eye to the main chance.
And I felt so sorry for the poor dog! I assume she killed him. I hate films that feature any sort of harm to animals.
Quote That little snack stand - where Popeye gets a candy apple, and Charnier gets that drink in that plastic cup that you have to leave behind - is looooong gone Unquote
I remember thinking at the time, that can't be very hygienic! All that subway dirt.
Apparently, the actress wrote that song herself! I thought she was brilliant.
I loved Telly Savalas's handknitted sweater (about 22 mins in) - very complicated pattern but it must have been boiling on a Greek island!
"In ze Third Reich ve assume everyone is Jewish unless proven otherwise." What a load of toot.
