I said that I don't believe in killing animals for sport....period!!! What's there not to get?
I would never, ever kill an animal, however, who's somebody's pet. Killing a cow, a pig, or a pheasant for meat is something I'd do, but that's it.
Suppose you kill somebody and you end up with a court date? How would you deal with it?
So...you don't care if one of your landmines kills or permanently maims another human being? That's completely wrong. Suppose a milkman, a cop, a fireman, or whoever ends up getting permanently maimed or killed by one of your landmines, and you end up with a court date, and being involved in a major, expensive civil lawsuit, either because that person's family or the person him/herself decided to press charges against you? No homestead would protect you against that kind of expensive civil lawsuit, because a savvy attorney would have no trouble getting around that.
The trouble is that the laws that are in affect aren't strict enough, which contributes a great deal to why we've had so many of these mass shootings. As a society and culture, we're seeing the net result of too-lax gun safety and control laws, especially right now.
I still don't see any justification for anybody keeping other customers at a check-out line waiting while s/he multitasks and talks on his/cell phone at the same time. That's a real sign of somebody who has total disregard for other people.
Go fuck yourself, Jamesboland. I don't need this goddamned crap you're handing me. Blow!
I don't care about most people, and, unlike YOU, jamesboland, I don't PRETEND to do so, either. I ain't like you, never will be, never want to be.
You're just trying to get me to change my opinion on such rudeness so that it tallies up with yours. I'm not buying it....not one bit. Who cares if a bitch's boyfriend is staring at me with a cellphone to his ears from outside the store? Hmmmmm??
What if it's a cop, a fireman, the milkman, the newspaper boy, or a friend or family member, or even a meter-reader who goes onto your property, for legitimate reasons? Think about that.
No, only rude assholes do that.
You're welcome, Barbelost. Thank you for the compliment. The Lion King was a good film. I had no idea that there was a re-make of this particular movie in the offing.
As for the movie to begin with, I recommend West Side Story, but it's to each their own.
Target practice for sport is one thing. Killing animals for sport is atrocious.
There was a rather horrific incident not that long ago in Indianapolis, IN, where a family who kept their loaded and unlocked handgun on a high shelf in their bedroom closet had a death in the family due to their stupidity and carelessness regarding their firearm. Their 4 year old kid climbed up to the shelf in the bedroom closet, got hold of the gun, shot himself in the head, and killed himself. Because the parents were in another part of the house taking care of their younger kid, who was only 1 year old, they didn't see or hear their 4 year old kid go into their bedroom. This tragedy, like other gun tragedies, was totally preventable. It did not have to happen.
The parents should've known better, first of all because babies and small children are curious. They run around, they climb, and, in general, get into things, often that they shouldn't be getting into, in the first place. Secondly, it was totally irresponsible for the parents to keep a loaded gun on just the highest shelf in their bedroom closet where a young child could get to the gun just by climbing, instead of keeping it unloaded, and under lock and key, like they should've. Had the parents used common sense, their older kid would still be alive and healthy today.
What if a person hears somebody walking around their kitchen at 2 or 3 a. m., goes downstairs or whatever to the kitchen, shoots the person and finds out that s/he has shot and killed their spouse, friend or one of their kids who just went down to the kitchen to get a midnight snack or a drink of water?
I understand people who have no other choice killing deer, birds and rabbits for food. That's a survival tactic, and a necessity for some people.
Killing animals for sport or for trophies, however, is totally cruel, and not understandable.
I don't think that the idea of using a gun for self-defense is a good one, CyberVerm. The fact is that, like any weapon, a gun can be taken away from a person and used against him or her. Secondly, there's always somebody who'll be quicker on the draw than the gun owner. shooting just begets more shooting. s
Hi, ShogunofYonkers. Thank you very much for your compliment to me, and accepting the fact that I have a different opinion than you and lots of other people on this board regarding gun safety and gun control.
Nobody's looking to take anybody's guns away from them. What gun-control advocates such as myself believe is that guns should be more regulated, in terms of the numbers manufactured, and more extensive and intensive background checks and screening of prospective purchasers of firearms, and many gun-control advocates, including myself, also realize that an all-out ban on guns is an impossibility, due to the omnipotence (powerfulness) of the NRA and the Gun Lobby.
More dealers should refrain from selling firearms to people with a history of anger-management issues, mental health issues, a history of substance and alcohol abuse, and a history of emotional instability when such a person's names come up on the dealers' computers. There should be firm rules against selling to such people, and rogue gun dealers, as well as other dealers who refuse to comply with such rules should be forced out of business.
Also, I stand by my opinion that gun manufacturers should be required to install tamper-proof locks in guns to prevent unauthorized use of a firearm in the event that it's either lost or stolen. The fact that the NRA and the Gun Lobby have consistently bullied various lawmakers here in the United States from implementing such simple gun safety laws as that is rather disgusting. What's equally galling, however, is the fact that most lawmakers here in the United States, from the President on down, have never, ever had the gumption to stand up to the NRA and the Gun Lobby's bullying tactics.
For anybody who thinks that Barack Obama is taking their guns away: I've never been a big fan of Barack Obama either, but the fact is that nobody's guns are being taken away. The Brady Commission flunked Obama on gun control.
I stand by my opinion that guns here in the United States need to be more regulated than they are. That's for the better of our society as a whole, and it would save many lives.
Here's another point, though: Guns can go off accidentally, either with careless handling, or even if a gun is in somebody's pocket. Not long ago, a guy's gun went off while it was in his pocket, and seriously injured him. Another person's gun went off accidentally and injured a pregnant woman in Wal*Mart who was also waiting in line.
If you think that guns don't kill people, you're dead wrong here, kskap. Guns are weapons of war, that are designed and built to do precisely that: Kill people, and kill people they do.
I stand by my opinion that the person should just get the hell out of the line and deal with the problem then and there. Again, she's got no right to keep others waiting.
The trouble is, mxpowers43, is that far too many people here in the United States and throughout the world use and have used religion for their own interests and agendas...inotherwords, used in the wrong ways, if one gets the drift.
