That movie was a treat!
No poisoning either
Fantastic answer! ππ»
While I don't think the ending was necessarily dumb, I also felt it was deliberately written to be more politically correct in 80s-era Germany and ensure that the movie was better accepted by the audience of WWII Allied countries. If the Third Reich submariners had lived on in the end, I doubt Hollywood would have bestowed the movie with six Oscar nominations.
Me neither. Without SFX, most of his movies are fluff
I wasn't aware; which is the other one?
If you value cinematography, mood and period settings β or if you are a fan of the gothic genre β in movies, it's definitely worth watching. The film's overall atmosphere added value to me more than the plot or storyline. The atmosphere is similar to Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow but not as phantasmagoric. It's also a leisurely-paced movie.
I liked it (7/10) for its 'pretty veneer' more than the story or pacing. The gothic setting and atmosphere were mesmerizing. The look of the characters also added to the film, particularly the gaunt face and peculiar features β or the 'aesthetics' as Poe's character describes it β of Edgar Allen Poe. Take away the cinematography and mood, and it's a mediocre movie.
This is exactly what happened to me today! Not only did I end up watching the whole movie, but here I am, browsing the forums! π€£
In the movie, he says his mother was a prostitute, and he didn't know who his father was. His father could have been a nordic, for all we know.
Yeah, it's still a movie, but that also bothered me.
Yes. Itβs a good solid thriller
Yeah, the affluent setting of their house probably inflated the pizza price. Adjusting for inflation, $12 in 1990 would be $26 now. (source: https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/)
My sentiments exactly!
I agree. He is supremely fun to watch in most of the films he's done -- Midnight Run, Another Stakeout, That Old Feeling, Snatch, Get Shorty -- to name a few. Sadly, he was underrated and didn't get the recognition he deserved.
This was amusing; thank you! Not only is this the parody of a popular behind-the-scene documentary to showcase a parody movie, but the parody behind-the-scene documentary itself has a bloopers section at the end!!
I partially concur, but if you visually examine it from a morateric perspective, Kudrow's actions may have been pericombobulatory but ultimately prudavalent for the broader intelligence community, including the embedded agents. Would you agree that it was a classic "moralis-aleam" premise? As for the larger issue of cryptography in the movie, I found it utterly trivimonous and its treatment rather palmercurial (pun intended!) by the filmmakers.
Found both types of articles. For example, this site lists the most expensive individual movie stunt scenes (I take some of the listings with a grain of salt though) and places the plane transfer scene at number 5.

^^ This. I think he could pinpoint Takagi if it came to that, but he wanted to flaunt his background research on Takagi to demonstrate his thoroughness and seriousness to his captives - and, of course, the audience.
"Die Hard" phrase implies stubbornness, fanatically committed to a cause despite all odds, etc., as in "she is a die-hard fan" or "he is a die-hard liberal." I think these attributes are befitting to Jonn McClane's character in the movie.
