Not a David Lynch fan, huh?
If it's done right, an ambiguous ending can be brilliant (see: Total Recall, Blade Runner, Pan's Labyrinth)
What about Pan's Labyrinth?
Agreed, it was a very clever promotion.
The movie needed a final big baddie, I just wish his dialogue hadn't been so contrived and cheesy. The rest of the movie was so well written that it was quite a jarring shift when Ares was suddenly spouting lines that sounded like they were written by an 8 year old.
I had my worries regarding the director (Cop Car was great but Clown was just stupid) and some SEVERE concerns that Sony would still find a way to screw the pooch on this.
Thankfully the reviews seem to indicate this film is a winner, and a breath of fresh air for us die-hard Spidey fans. If I had to guess I'd say this probably won't be as good of a movie as Spider-Man 2, but at least as good or better than the first; and much more accurate to the books.
Plus, we've got that Laura Harrier eye candy, which is certainly a plus.
Most reviews seem to be of the opinion that it's at the very least the best since Spider-Man 2, which is a tough act to beat (that train scene is still one of the greatest action sequences in CBM history). Though assuming Holland's performance is in keeping with his performance in Civil War, it will definitely be the best Parker/Spidey portrayal to date.
Please keep your butthurt conspiracy nonsense off my threads. Thanks.
Jesus Christ, so many people on this board have clearly never picked up a Spider-Man book in their lives.
If anything, Keaton is far younger than the character as originally conceived.
Right? So far this is by a huge margin the most comic-accurate Peter/Spidey we've seen.
Shame. Ron Howard is a very capable director, and he has some films I absolutely love, but for a film like this, you want the kind of unique and energetic approach that Lord/Miller would have certainly brought.
So far Lord/Miller are 4 for 4 on taking concepts that sound terrible and making something excellent.
- turning a 32 page children's book into a full length feature
- comedic adaptation of a 1980's tv show
- a movie based on a series of toys
- a comedy sequel (seriously, comedy sequels are almost always terrible)
All four of those should have been disasters and yet the weakest of the four was still a solid B (22 Jump Street).
A Han Solo origin story is just the kind of risky idea they excel at.
Who said that? Who the fuck said that? Who's the slimy little Communist shit twinkle-toed cocksucker down here who just signed his own death warrant?

Anathema - Lightning Song
Lightning splits the sky
Shining blinding white
And here I lie almost asleep
Reckoning in a place of peace
And I feel I found my place in time and space
In hope and faith and love I give
My mind is clear, I have no fear
I shed no tears for you, my dear
This world is wonderful, so beautiful,
if only you can open up your mind and see
Your world is everything you ever dreamed of,
if only you can open up your mind and see
You will see - see - see
This world is wonderful, so beautiful,
if only you can open up your mind and see
Your world is everything you ever dreamed of,
if only you can open up your mind and see
The beauty that is here
The beauty that is here

Prometheus has its share of problems, but at least it has focus and maintains a consistent tone throughout. Covenant isn't sure what it wants to be, and the harsh tonal shift in the third act was just sloppy.
Casualties of Cool - Bones
For all your light
You were not delivered.
Landing hard
Amidst the bones and myself.
In I you trusted,
All your worries and wonders.
But you will find no comfort here.
I built this road and this journey before you.
These bones were men who all fell at my feet.
And when you’re tired and afraid I will hold you.
Build you up, just to tear you apart.
This way, my child.
I’ll take the journey this road that’s beside you
I’ll give her everything more than I am
And when there’s nothing left burning inside you,
Your bones will riddle the ground with the rest.
And welcome the next…
‘Til your...

A. Baby Driver
Impeccable direction, outstanding cast, killer soundtrack.
Definitely have to disagree with #3. Once we were 8, my friends and I went trick-or-treating by ourselves every year.
Fallon beats Colbert in the ratings for the same reason Transformers 5 made 3x as much as Baby Driver on their opening days.
Baby Driver
The first one was entertaining, but not a good movie by any stretch, and strayed pretty far from the source material. The sequels were just boring, got progressively worse with each installment, and had little to nothing to do with the source material outside of some characters having the same names.
