I am finding it reassuring to see some rational voices here on Moviechat. A while back I was worried that the lunatic left were taking over the boards here. It good to see posts like yours.

I am kind of glad I am late on my reply here. However recent events have clarified mt positions on this subject.
Yesterday we were given yet another horrific event of terror on our cities. Yet another event in Wisconsin. A terrorist slimeball drove his suv through a crowd of people witching a parade. There were families and children % people were killed and over 40 injured. His name was Darrel Brooks.
The incident is "under i8nvestigation"
People who were familiar with his social media platforms have reported that he had aligned himself with groups who have been know to riot and cause deat and destruction. He also had posted AGAINST Kyle Rittenhouse. His social media pages have suddenly disappeared since the incident. But people remember things.
During the Rittenhouse trial we heard "chants" from terror groups, "NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE".
Their idea of justice is that Kyle Rittenhouse must be found guilty and then then --------------.
Obviously some serious punishment, maybe death.
Anyway I look at current events and say to myself, "is this what we have to look forward to now?
Since Brooks aligned himself with such causes, these "terror" groups had best not try to disassociate themselves from such events at the recent riots and unrest. After all, what sort of behavior does "no justice, no peace" encourage. These chants just provide fuel for a fire.
It goes without saying that there needs to be a SERIOUS crackdown on these so called "peaceful protests" and exactly what they cause and encourage. These are the very reason that people need to be armed for their own protection of their life and property. But then too the true cowards strike at innocent events where people gather and never suspect what we happen.
I call these terrorist groups because they run on creating fear and carry out unspeakable deeds
They take freedoms that our country provides and use it to destroy everyone freedom.
THIS MUST BE STOPPED.

I honestly dont know where Biden fits into this.
Let me throw a logical question into this and then comment.
1 If we are no longer bound by a judicial system to weigh out ALL of the FACTS and EVIDENCE;If we are no longer bound by a jury to look at and look at ALL of the evidence and reach a conclusion: what sort of system of justice should we have to replace it. "Trial by media"?
2 This matter has NOTHING to do with Portland and there is NO reason for ANYONE to be doing ANYTHING there in response to this PERIOD
The police or military should use whatever force is necessary to restore order there. WE can NOT let terrorists threaten and run our country simply because they dont like the outcome of a trial.

I hadn't looked at this board for a while but I saw your remark here. I see what you mean.
This profile picture in the face of his death just rips my heart out. I know at 19 he was not this same cute happy face but that doesn't change what happened. People here who have said he was still "KID" are right even though me may be considered legally an adult.
Looking back on my own life, I realize I was not an adult at 18 and I had no real idea what the so called ADULT world was all about. Nothing really prepares you for what happens when you
move out of the world of childhood into adulthood. Its not what you might think it is. The world is not going to respect you or treat you like an adult. The "bullies" you experienced in school were nothing to the cut throat bullies that you find in an adult world.
I suspect that Matthew suffered with childhood depression to some degree or another. When you grow up in this environment you have nothing to compare with to define a baseline of "normal' all you know is that you increasingly feel more and more like crap/
I think we see not that Jonathan Brandis experienced this and so did Matthew. Not understanding what to do or where to go doesn't help. Having people around who dont see it or dont know how to help makes it worse. But worst of all are those who will push you to the breaking point and not care in the least about what they are doing. We see the result.
For Matthew and Jonathan they are out of pain. The ones left to suffer are those who loved them.

As for making a joke of this situation. only one that is like minded to Biden can think this is funny.
Biden has shown nothing but contempt to this country, its citizens and the American way of like. He hated all of it. He will force many senior citizens into complete poverty.
While he has inflated the cost of EVERYTHING, he has granted only a 1.3% increase in social security, less than the increases under Trump, when the inflation was low. Just imagine a person of his age showing contempt for seniors. But then again he seems to have contempt for everyone and everything except some of the lunatic left who's asses he is kissing.

FWIW I agree with you. I understand that it was adapted from a Broadway musical, which I have not seen. Nevertheless I dont feel the singing ADDA to the movie. It detracts from.
For me it throws off the pacing of the movie. Secondly it was just annoying. Third, I felt it conveyed mixed emotions from what was intended.
F0r me, many of the lines would have been SO much more powerful and would have conveyed the right emotions if they were spoken. It really just bored me in spots.
The story line seems solid. I would love to see a non musical version.I went with a friend who felt the same way. Other than the 2 of us, our auditorium was empty

The world is becoming an increasingly stressful place.
Despite what we hear about "help" being available. it is harder to find than ever. I know this first hand.
I had never heard of Matthew. Nevertheless stores like this kind of rip my heart out.
I agree it is way to young to to decide that life is not worth living, but there are some who are not even in their teens that have made the same choice.
I will be watching for further details as to exactly what happened and if they uncover a possible motive. Maybe it will help others who are in distress.

How can one inject "rational thinking" into a science fictional situation where nothing is actually developing in a rational way. This is not necessarily to say tht I think that all of YOUR ideas are rational either.
When we see science fiction or horror depicting "impossible" situations, we have to suspend the natural laws we know of and accept all sorts or irrational possibilities that might arise.
WE simply CANT apply common sense or scientific explanations to explain things.
We may try, but it wont work. That is the point of the story and the dilemma the characters are faced with. There is no real way to predict a future outcome.
I agree that the camera work was a bit off-putting at times. Nothing is more horrendous as the old Paul Greengrass movies with shaky-cam and chip- chop editing....... which some people insisted is good cinematography.
All in all I liked the movie much better than most of his films except for the ones he is specifically noted for.
The story seemed fresh and new.
Those who seek a realistic explanation from something that is purely science fiction are not happy but to over analyze a movie like this will show endless ambiguities.
It kept my attention the entire time and I was entertained and I felt I got what I paid for and was not disappointed I saw it.
!) This is not a review of a movie. This is simply a bash of ONE person in the movie. I am not denying that I boycott certain movies because of certain people who have trashed their credibility because of their actions or more, their inability to keep their pieholes shut about their own prejudices and political crap etc. Nevertheless I do not trash an entire movie which I probably dont even see, simply because they are in it.
2) I this case I did see the movie. I am not here to defend Wahlbergs past actions.
Nevertheless a movie is not just a product of the past (completely inappropriate) actions of one person in the movie. I can appreciate a movie without always condoning the offscreen past actions which were pretty horrendous. I give due credit to ALL of the performances in the movie and its ability to touch base with a very serious and very real issue about bullying. THIS message come across well in the movie. It was very moving and I was very emotional about what the young man was experiencing.
3) I think this movie is being hijacked and pigeonholed by the LGBTQ etc etc groups.
The REAL issue here is about BULLYING,...... for ANY reason, not just sexual identity.
Bullying can happen for any number of reasons and its WRONG. Its a SERIOUS issue.
Next is suicide. When a person feels that he is bullied by most, and does not get the needed support from family and friends, they often have nowhere to turn. They cant seem to turn to the people who are supposed to be in charge if keeping order and civility. This is what happened here. A boy crying out for help. Friends and family putting him "on hold"
Authorities doing nothing.
4) I like the movie for what it does and the message it gives us. I may not like some of those who are delivering a part of that message but i DO appreciate that they are an instrument that is a pert of this important message.
I can only hope that Wahlberg sees fit to turn around and give us a new and and better image of who he is today.
Since you sited ONLY Walbergs performance and no others, what do you think would have made it better in your opinion.
It has been MANY years since I have checked in on this board. It was way back on IMDB.
In any event, I thought I would comment on your thoughts.
I see Williams character as somewhat of a "mixed bag". He did indeed keep the kids off the streets and provide them the basic necessities of life. He kept them safe from predictors who would have been far worse and more damaging to their lives. He taught them music and earning a way to help provide for their "community".
There is however a flip side. His actions would be considered exploitation of the boys. He particularly played favorites with August Rush because of the boys exceptional talent. He wanted that talent all to himself and to prevent August from the opportunity to move forward into a formal education and a serious career in music. He was holding August back. He was holding him back from his goal of finding his parents and his roots.
I know he believed that Augusts pursuit was a waste of time but his actions were like he OWNED August and was using him. August was a far greater talent then he was and was a truly gifted child and needed someone to guide him in a way that he could make a true career in music and share his talent and love for music with the world.
So here we see two different sides to the Wizard. There were aspects to be pitied in a way.
But I did admire that the boys were not being abused in ways that many would have done.
There are two contrasting personalities here.
To me the movie was "incomprehensible" It was just all over the place. Its not like anything James Wan was involved in. I totally agree with the person that called it over dramatized. When you take something based on a true incident and make it completely unbelievable, than it simply becomes an over dramatized fiction.
In the conjuring series I was very unimpressed with this one.
Well isnt that a shame!
What do you have against movie theaters and those of us who WANT to see a movie on the big screen?
John Krasinski specifically WANTED this to open in theaters. All of us had to wait for it.
You can always get up off your easy chair and go to the theater and see it as it was meant to be seen.
